Re-signing Connor McDavid was the Edmonton Oilers’ top priority this offseason. The superstar center is their most valuable player, and the organization tried everything to lock him up before his contract expires next summer.
However, with training camp underway and no agreement in sight, fans across the league are starting to dream about their teams’ chances of landing McDavid after this season. But when they started floating the idea, other NHL fans quickly rejected the theory.
NHL Fans Quickly Reject the Notion of Connor McDavid Going to LA
GM Stan Bowman has already made it clear that re-signing McDavid remains the top priority for the Oilers heading into the new season. However, while the fans have been eagerly waiting for him to extend his contract, McDavid is taking his time.
The center made it clear that he is in no hurry to sign a deal and is currently focused simply on the upcoming season. But with McDavid keeping it vague about his future, fans across the league are wondering if their team could be the next landing spot for him.
One such team is the Los Angeles Kings. With uncertainty surrounding captain Anže Kopitar’s future beyond this season, L.A. fans see an opportunity to land McDavid. One Kings supporter posted, “One of the most insane things about McDavid possibly walking is that one of the better candidates to get him would be L.A.”
What does LAK even have that’s enticing for Connor?
He’s going East if anything. Toronto, NYR, Wash…

But this didn’t slide with the Oilers fanbase, who quickly shut them down. One fan showed their displeasure as they wrote, “What does LAK even have that’s enticing for Connor? He’s going East if anything. Toronto, NYR, Wash…”
The fan believes that if anything, McDavid will consider moving from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, another fan wrote, “I doubt he’d go to another Ken Holland team. Especially when LA seems to be quickly moving into no-man’s-land.”

The fan argued that McDavid has already endured Holland’s leadership from 2019 to 2024 without winning a Cup. Combined with the Oilers’ playoff success against the Kings in recent years, joining L.A. would make little sense for the superstar center.
He’s not going to a team that he owns in the first round every year

Another fan circled back to the Kings’ continuous losses to the Oilers. He wrote, “He’s not going to a team that he owns in the first round every year.” According to him, if McDavid wants to remain in the West, he would join a title contender instead of the Kings.
NHL Rumors: Oilers Could Suffer Collateral Damage in Connor McDavid Standoff
Some fans highlighted L.A.’s current roster issues, citing Kopitar’s uncertain future beyond this season and Adrian Kempe’s stalled contract negotiations. As one fan put it, “L.A. seems to be going in the wrong direction; I’m not sure he’d want to go there.”

Meanwhile, one fan believes McDavid won’t join a weaker team than Edmonton. “Why would he go to a team he already owns?” they posted online.
While fans await an official statement from McDavid, speculation about him joining the L.A. Kings has been widely dismissed. Still, if McDavid found himself in the “City of Angels,” there would be some historical precedence. Oilers great Wayne Gretzky once moved on from Edmonton to the Kings.
