Lane Hutson Sends Team USA Crystal Clear Message As Canadiens’ Cole Caufield Races to NHL History

Following the Montreal Canadiens' OT victory against the Nashville Predators, Lane Hutson has his opinions about Cole Caufield's inclusion to Team USA

The Montreal Canadiens entered this season with their eyes set firmly on victory. The Habs are dominating the Atlantic Division right now, with four wins and one loss. Kent Hughes’ rebuilding efforts have ushered in a new era for the Canadiens, and the team appears poised to reclaim its throne.

Except for the damning 5-2 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs in their season-opener, the team has yet to lose another game. The last two games ended with OT wins for the Habs, and winger Cole Caufield delivered in Montreal’s victories against the Seattle Kraken and the Nashville Predators. Now, Lane Hutson has made his opinions clear about the winger’s addition to represent the country at the Olympics.

Montreal Canadiens D-Man Shares Views About Cole Caufield’s Olympics Future

The Habs’ latest win against the Predators was cinematic. Caufield’s second goal did not happen until the last three seconds of OT, but ultimately gave the Habs the ending they were pining for. The Canadiens emerged victorious by 3-2, and Caufield was a hero.

But the exhibit against the Predators was only another feather in the winger’s already decorated hat: the 24-year-old’s OT goal against Nashville was the fifth in three games.

It is apparent that Caufield fits right into the Canadiens’ plans to reach the pinnacle of NHL glory, and internationally, too, the winger could put his infinite potential to bring pride to the United States through the Olympics. Hutson, who has now found a place in the preliminary roster, quickly testified to Caufield’s abilities.

“I think we saw it when they went to OT versus Canada: They need someone to score, and in those big moments, that’s something he can bring. Not only that, I think he generates so much at five-on-five, and he is a threat on the power play,” the defenseman stated, making a case for the winger’s addition to the team USA.

Hutson further emphasized his stance by adding that Caufield’s excellence is contagious, and if surrounded by good players, his commitment, dedication, and talent make him stand out. “I think when you give him some good players to play with, he makes them even better, and he shines through. Just the skill, and the work ethic, and the scoring threat that he is, I think he should be on that team,” Hutson said, resting his case.

Whether Caufield marks his presence on ice for the USA or not, he has become an indelible element of the Canadiens, and so has Hutson. With a solid team, the Canadiens might just emerge as the next Stanley Cup champion.
