Everything seemed to be going Montreal’s way early on. The Canadiens were sitting atop the Atlantic Division with a solid 10-5-2 record. But things changed quickly after a brutal 7–0 loss to the Dallas Stars. That defeat came right after a 5-1 loss to the Kings on Tuesday, and they now dropped four of their last five games.
So even with the strong start this year, fans are struggling to wrap their heads around how the team followed it up with such a lopsided loss in Dallas.
What Went Wrong for the Canadiens Against the Stars?
Montreal actually opened the game well, firing 14 shots on goal in the first period. After that, the offense completely dried up, managing just three shots in the second and seven in the third. Goaltending also became a major issue. Jakub Dobes gave up five goals on 13 shots before being pulled. Sam Montembeault let in the first shot he faced, stopping four of six.
Unsurprisingly, fans were not pleased. Social media lit up after the blowout. One fan didn’t hold back after attending the game in person, writing that they “want my money back” and calling it “the most embarrassing one I’ve seen so far.”
I want my money back. I was at the game and it’s the most embarrassing one I’ve seen so far.

Another fan took a more analytical approach, pointing out flaws that have been building for weeks: “Was clear we weren’t that good, low shots every game, only one line that scores consistently. Special teams are bad, coach force feeds a bad Monty starts while icing dobes. 1-5 vs playoff teams. Velano, Gallagher, and even Jake Evans have been hard to watch. Time for a trade Hugh.”

Another user highlighted the rough numerical slump, noting that the Canadiens have allowed ten unanswered goals and haven’t had more than 23 shots in any of their last four games. Their message: “I truly hope MSL shows his fangs”.
The frustration also came out through sarcasm. One fan wrote, “Being in first place was nice while it lasted… but I guess nice things have an expiry date on them,” suggesting that Montreal’s hot start might have been fool’s gold.
Another fan emphasized just how badly the week has gone, noting that the Canadiens have been outscored 12–0 since Anderson’s goal on Tuesday. “Gotta find a way on Saturday. #GoHabsGo”
Outscored 12-0 sinca the Anderson goal on Tuesday. Not a good week at all. Gotta find a way on Saturday. #GoHabsGo

One fan took direct aim at the coaching decisions, particularly the choice to pull Dobeš and the odd handling of the power-play units. “Should of kept riding with Dobes, big mistake. Takes PP 1 off after 50 secs, puts on Gallagher and Veleno, can’t believe these coaching decisions.”
After such a rough stretch, the Canadiens will be looking to regroup and reset as they prepare to host the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
