Two notable NHL contracts were signed recently. The Chicago Blackhawks re-signed Frank Nazar to a multi-year extension, and the Minnesota Wild locked up Marco Rossi on a three-year deal.
Nazar’s seven-year, $46.13 million contract stands out as the most lucrative in NHL history for a player with so little experience, having appeared in only 56 games. Meanwhile, Rossi’s deal is worth $15 million over three seasons, nearly $2 million less per year than Nazar’s.
The Wild structured Rossi’s contract to remain flexible, giving them the option to move it if he can’t replicate his career-high 60-point campaign. Still, does the gap between his deal and Nazar’s feel too wide to overlook?
NHL Fans Question Disparity Between Frank Nazar And Marco Rossi Contracts
Several fans are unhappy that Nazar received a much longer and more lucrative deal than Rossi, who has appeared in all 82 regular-season games in each of the last two seasons while outscoring him.
One fan couldn’t believe how much more money Nazar earned when comparing the two players’ stats, saying, “40 and 60 pts = $5M deal. Nazar the superstar 26 pts in 56 games got 6.6M$ ridiculous IMO.”

Another fan wanted to know, “Why the f*** Nazar got 6.6M$ after 56 NHL games and Rossi got 5???”
This confused fan broke it down, saying, “So, let me understand this. Marco Rossi is worth 1.59 million per year less than Nazar? Is two years older (23), picked ninth overall in his draft, and to date has average PPG in his NHL career, .55, but Nazar, in his short career in the NHL (one season), averaged .49 PPG. Hmmm.”

Keeping in that theme, this fan replied, “Nazar got $6.6M, and he makes less PPG than Rossi, 0.4642 for Nazar and 0.5459 for Rossi lol.”
Finally, this fan took a more nuanced approach to the deal, saying, “While I agree that the sample size seems far too low to warrant the contract Nazar got, I think the nature of the contracts are very different.”
They continued, “Nazar will be on this contract until he’s 30, and this is possibly either the biggest contract he will ever receive or one of two main contracts of his career. Rossi is set up to perform on this short deal and possibly get a contract that’ll absolutely blow Nazar’s contract out of the water.”
Nazar played in only 53 games this past season for the Blackhawks, scoring 12 goals while adding 14 assists. On the other hand, Rossi scored 24 goals and 30 assists in 82 games.
