With $63M Contract Signed, Luke Hughes Sends Devils a Message on Quinn Hughes Reunion

While the dream of uniting the three Hughes brothers persists, Luke Hughes has made it clear that he desires to play alongside them someday.

All summer long, the fans have been whispering about a single possibility: the three Hughes brothers playing on the same team. For a long time, this has looked like a far-fetched dream. But recently, these whispers have become louder.

With Quinn Hughes entering the final two years of his Vancouver contract, speculation is mounting that he’ll eventually reunite with brothers Jack and Luke in New Jersey. The buzz intensified recently when Luke sent his older brother a public message hinting at a future reunion.

Luke Hughes Makes His Wish Clear on Playing With Older Brother Quinn Hughes

When Quinn was selected seventh overall by Vancouver in 2018, many expected his brothers to follow the same path. Instead, both Jack and Luke landed with New Jersey, keeping the family connection alive in a different jersey.

Jack went first overall in 2019, while Luke followed at fourth overall in 2021. Since then, the possibility of all three Hughes brothers uniting in New Jersey has captivated fans. Vancouver’s continued playoff struggles have only amplified the speculation about Quinn’s future.

Jack had already sparked reunion speculation last month with candid comments about his older brother. ‘Honestly, I’m not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to … eventually, I’d love to play with him,’ he told reporters in September.

Now Luke has echoed his brother’s sentiment. Fresh off signing his seven-year, $63 million extension with New Jersey, the youngest Hughes made his intentions clear. “Yeah, of course. I think the 3 of us would all love to play together someday… Never say never,” he said.

Jack has already played alongside both brothers in different settings. He teamed with Quinn for Team USA at the 2019 IIHF World Championships and is now skating with Luke in New Jersey. But the dream scenario of all three Hughes brothers on the same NHL roster remains unfulfilled.

All three brothers have made their ultimate goal clear: playing together on the same NHL roster. With Jack and Luke both locked into long-term deals in New Jersey, the earliest this dream could materialize is summer 2027, when Quinn hits unrestricted free agency at age 27.

New Jersey remains the odds-on favorite to unite all three Hughes brothers. With Jack and Luke already on the roster, the Devils have the cap flexibility and motivation to make a strong push for Quinn when he hits the market in 2027.

However, as Vancouver’s franchise player and captain, Quinn won’t come cheap, and the Canucks are unlikely to let their cornerstone defenseman walk without a fight. But a wildcard has emerged with the 2026 Winter Olympics looming on the horizon.

All three brothers attended the Orientation Camp in August, and Quinn has since been named to Team USA’s official roster. If Jack and Luke secure spots on the final 23-man squad, fans could finally witness all three Hughes brothers representing Team USA at Milan-Cortina in February.
