Luke Hughes Contract Rumors: NHL Fans React As Camp Pushes for Deal To Match Brother Jack’s Timeline

Fans react as contract negotiations between franchise cornerstone, Luke Hughes, and the New Jersey Devils face challenges.

The New Jersey Devils are riding high on a wave of confidence into the new season. The Devils finished third in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference with 42 wins, 33 losses, and 91 points. The team is all set to play seven preseason games in September, with three slated to be held at the Prudential Center.

Preseason games help build excitement and prep the fans’ palates for the regular season. However, the Devils’ management has important business to handle before that: RFA Luke Hughes is just off his entry-level contract. The two parties have reached a deadlock regarding contract terms.

What did Fans Say About Luke Hughes-New Jersey Devils Contract Negotiations?

According to Ryan Novozinsky, the front office at New Jersey and Hughes have reached an impasse in their contract negotiations. Management would like either a bridge deal of about three years or a long-term deal of eight years. Hughes, on the other hand, is looking for something entirely different. “Hughes side wants to line Luke’s deal up with his brother Jack, who becomes a free agent in 2030.”

Jack Hughes, who is currently signed to an eight-year, $64 million contract with the Devils, will become an unrestricted free agent in 2030. Fans flocked to the post, with many voicing the same opinion: The brothers intend to leave the Devils to join the ranks of their older brother, Quinn Hughes’ team, the Vancouver Canucks.

“Wow, Jack and Luke to vancouver in 2030, Followed by Bedard in 2032 and celebrini in 2033. Wild times ahead”, commented one social media user, prophesying the two brothers’ future with the Canucks.

Another echoed their opinion, expressing excitement at the prospect of Jack and Luke joining the Vancouver outfit. “Can’t wait for the bros to come to Vancouver.”

A third social media user speculated that Quinn Hughes may have asked his brothers to eventually join the Canucks. “Quinn told them to join him in van.”

However, Quinn’s future with the Canucks is shrouded in uncertainty. The Canucks defenseman’s contract will expire at the end of the 2026-27 season.

According to a Yahoo Sports article, Quinn has previously expressed his desire to join his brothers in playing for the Devils. “Quinn has previously mentioned his interest in someday playing with his brothers in New Jersey. When his contract expires in two years, that possibility could become real.”

Whether the brothers are united in Vancouver or New Jersey remains to be seen.
