The New Jersey Devils are riding high on a wave of confidence into the new season. The Devils finished third in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference with 42 wins, 33 losses, and 91 points. The team is all set to play seven preseason games in September, with three slated to be held at the Prudential Center.
Preseason games help build excitement and prep the fans’ palates for the regular season. However, the Devils’ management has important business to handle before that: RFA Luke Hughes is just off his entry-level contract. The two parties have reached a deadlock regarding contract terms.
What did Fans Say About Luke Hughes-New Jersey Devils Contract Negotiations?
According to Ryan Novozinsky, the front office at New Jersey and Hughes have reached an impasse in their contract negotiations. Management would like either a bridge deal of about three years or a long-term deal of eight years. Hughes, on the other hand, is looking for something entirely different. “Hughes side wants to line Luke’s deal up with his brother Jack, who becomes a free agent in 2030.”
