The Los Angeles Kings have remained one of the most consistent teams in the Pacific Division in recent years. However, despite their best efforts, the franchise has not made a deep playoff run, suffering four consecutive first-round exits.
While the addition of new players over the summer promised better playoff chances, fans were left frustrated when the franchise reported that its latest signing had suffered an injury before the season even started.
Kings Fans Riled Up As Corey Perry Injured Before Training Camp
Despite their convincing performances in the regular season, the Kings have struggled in the postseason. With Corey Perry signing a one-year, $2 million deal, fans expected a better showing against the Oilers in next year’s playoffs.
But those hopes were quickly dampened when the team announced that Perry was injured during a training skate. “Perry underwent successful knee surgery on Friday and will be out 6-8 weeks,” the team said.
Insider Elliotte Friedman, reposting a MayorsManor.com report, added that it’s unclear if there will be an official update before camp begins.

The Kings hope Perry will be available in time for their season opener against the Colorado Avalanche, but fans are upset. As one fan wrote, “I guess they won’t lose in the finals.”
The comment pointed to Perry’s failure to win the Stanley Cup despite reaching the finals in each of the past two seasons. Meanwhile, some fans noted that Perry is well past his prime and believe he should have retired long ago.

One fan said, “Nice signing, Holland (Kings general manager Ken Holland). Dude should have retired 3 years ago.” While Perry scored 10 goals in 22 games for the Oilers last season, many remain unconvinced that the 40-year-old can propel the Kings to a deep run.

Others took a more humorous approach. One fan wrote, “This would be the ultimate troll job if he is too injured to play all season while collecting a check from the Kings 🤣.”

Meanwhile, another fan wrote, “He was great last year, but you have to leave it before it leaves you. Should’ve had another cup, but whatever. Not like LA was gonna do that.” The comment noted that Perry’s past success didn’t guarantee he would have made much difference for the Kings.
Another fan joked, “The Ducks legend in him couldn’t take playing for LA. Hope it’s not serious.” The remark referenced Perry’s long tenure with the Anaheim Ducks, where he won a Stanley Cup, and highlighted the irony of him now wearing a Kings jersey.
No timeline has been given for Perry’s recovery, but the Kings hope he will be ready by the time the new season begins in October.
