Frustrated J.T. Miller Draws Line in the Sand With Rangers in Sink-or-Swim Territory

There have been few seasons as devastating as 2025-26 for the New York Rangers. They’re languishing at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, faring slightly better than Alex Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals. Fourteen games into the season, with 14 points on the board, the Rangers have seen better days.

Not long ago, Rangers captain J.T. Miller had bluntly stated that a loss early in the season was not to be blown out of proportion. However, Miller’s optimism has finally run out, and he could not help but express concern about the state of the franchise following the loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

New York Rangers Captain, J.T. Miller, Expresses Concern As Season Gets Derailed

The Canes’ shutout victory against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden left the home crowd dismayed.

Accounting for this loss, the Rangers have now faced four shutout defeats on home ice. The Pittsburgh Penguins dealt the team their first shutout defeat, followed by the Capitals, the Edmonton Oilers, and finally, the Hurricanes. As if losing at home wasn’t humiliating enough, the Rangers have lost in the absolute sense, being shut out not once, but four times now.

It is a worrying statistic, and one that we do not come across often. The last time a team was so profoundly unlucky was several decades ago.

Of course, the Rangers’ roster would love to create history, but this is hardly the way to go about it. It isn’t easy to believe that, as recently as the 2023-24 season, the team finished at the top of the Metropolitan Division with 114 points.

Miller, who is yet to put his best foot forward this year, is finally addressing the disaster that is unfolding before the Rangers. Previously, losses meant little to him, as the season was still young, but now it is becoming increasingly tough to ignore that the team is struggling.

“It’s not really cute anymore. It’s been 14 games,” Miller noted, according to NHL reporter Mollie Walker.

Miller himself has accumulated only eight points so far this season, three of them being goals. With the Rangers bracing to face the Detroit Red Wings on November 7, the team better hurry up, for we have finally reached the make-or-break moment of the 2025-26 season.
