Jets News and Rumors: Winnipeg May Have Dropped a Fresh Hint of a Connor Hellebuyck Trade

Connor Hellebuyck continues to be one of the biggest names on the NHL trade market, and the cascade of speculation has fans dissecting even the smallest details.

This time, a social media post from the Winnipeg Jets has sparked fresh discussion about the future of their franchise goaltender.

What The Fresh Connor Hellebuyck Trade Buzz Is All About

The speculation began when the Jets promoted their season-opener against the Boston Bruins with an 11-photo Instagram carousel. Fans quickly noticed that Hellebuyck, one of the faces of the franchise, was nowhere to be found.

On its own, leaving a player out of a promotional post doesn’t mean a trade is imminent. However, given everything that has surrounded Hellebuyck this offseason, the omission has only added fuel to an already active rumor mill.

The Jets are coming off a disappointing season in which they missed the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, while Hellebuyck endured the toughest statistical campaign of his NHL career. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner and 2025 Hart Trophy recipient posted a .895 save percentage in 57 games, marking the first time he has finished a season below the .900 mark.

Following the season, Hellebuyck openly questioned the direction of the franchise. During his end-of-season press conference, he criticized the organization’s lack of progress toward becoming a Stanley Cup contender.

“From my perspective, complacency is not going to get us moving forward. So something has got to happen. I’m not going to just sit here and throw every guy under the bus because, honestly, I’m a goalie and I know goaltending really well,” Hellebuyck said.

Those comments immediately fueled speculation that major changes could be on the horizon.

Another move that caught the attention of league observers came in free agency, when Winnipeg signed former Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.

Although general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has denied the signing was directly related to Hellebuyck’s future, many around the league believe Skinner gives the Jets an experienced replacement should they decide to move on from their star netminder.

Trade rumors intensified further after reports surfaced that Winnipeg came close to sending Hellebuyck to the Buffalo Sabres during NHL Draft weekend. The deal reportedly fell apart because the Jets’ asking price remained too high.

Whether Hellebuyck’s absence from the team’s latest promotional material was intentional or simply a coincidence remains unknown.

But with trade speculation already surrounding the former MVP, even the smallest detail is being viewed through a different lens, and the rumors aren’t likely to disappear until his future is settled.
