Lurking at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, the New York Islanders finally won their first game of the season at home ice against the Edmonton Oilers. The 4-2 victory came at a much-needed moment of redemption because the Islanders had faced three consecutive defeats against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Winnipeg Jets.
The Oilers were riding high on the wave of a shutout victory against the New York Rangers when they were dragged back to reality by the Islanders, specifically Bo Horvat. As fans rejoice in the Islanders’ much-needed victory, the team’s golden boy, Matthew Schaefer, remained humble despite his recent achievement.

New York was hungry for a win. Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner, coming off a shutout win against the Rangers, played decently well with 21 saves on 24 shots. But the 26-year-old ultimately fell short of achieving his 100th career victory.

Schaefer, on the other hand, quietly marked a career milestone at the age of 18. The rookie defenseman is now the youngest player in the NHL to score a point in each of his four career games.

However, despite the scale of his achievement, the D-man did not seem to make a big deal about it, stating that he is dominated by a nagging desire to win, and this milestone is just a consequence of such desire.
