Insider Rings Alarm Bells Over Jack Roslovic’s Future With Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers continue to fight for playoff positioning with players up and down the lineup looking to make significant impacts.

Forward Jack Roslovic has performed well with the Oilers, posting 32 points in 61 games. This comes despite missing training camp to begin the season after signing in late October. As the 29-year-old’s role in Edmonton’s offense increases, so do conversations about his future with the club.

Jack Roslovic’s Future in Edmonton Could Depend on Playoff Output

Edmonton looks poised to reach the postseason yet again; however, the team’s unsteady recent performances have fans concerned about its future success. While players like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have shown no letdown in their game, the Oilers’ depth may be a problem if they hope to reach the Stanley Cup Final for a third straight season.

Roslovic has emerged as one of the team’s best pieces behind the aforementioned McDavid and Draisaitl. The former first-round pick is no stranger to playoff hockey, as he helped the Carolina Hurricanes reach the Eastern Conference Final a season ago. At the beginning of March, NHL.com’s Derek Van Diest discussed the forward’s impressive play.

At the time, Roslovic was no stranger to how important the upcoming contests may be.

“We’re in the second stage of the season and that’s a lot more intense,” Roslovic said. “It’s a lot more playoff-like and I’m really trying to play a playoff-style game in the regular season. That’s what these last 20-some games are always about, teams making pushes and players playing playoff-style games.”

Since that quote, Edmonton has gone 7-3-1 with Roslovic posting six points. As the playoffs loom, the Columbus native continues to grow as a fan favorite. With his uptick in play, Roslovic further sparks conversations regarding his future in an Oilers sweater.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman states that despite his recent strong play, conversations may have stalled regarding the right-handed shooter’s next potential deal in Edmonton.

NHL Rumour Report detailed Friedman’s remarks in an X post.

“I still think with Jack Roslovic…watch the playoffs and see how that turns out,” said Friedman. “I had heard earlier in the year that they wanted to re-sign him, but that last time I checked…there hadn’t been much talk.”

Roslovic is currently on a one-year, $1.5 million deal that will undoubtedly go up after his strong season thus far.

If the Oilers can make yet another deep postseason run with Roslovic posing as a key contributor in his first season, could he return to Edmonton for years to come?
