The Florida Panthers have now become just the fourth team in the last 40 years to advance to the Stanley Cup Final for a third consecutive season. They defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final for the second time in the last three seasons, taking the series 4-1 after Wednesday’s 5-3 win in Raleigh.
The Panthers now await the winner of the Western Conference Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Dallas Stars. If the Oilers win on Thursday, they will set up the second consecutive matchup between the two clubs for the Stanley Cup.
Hurricanes Fans Look to The Future After Season-Ending Loss
While some Hurricanes fans were disappointed on social media, the overall sentiment exuded hope for the future.
One fan wrote, “Future’s bright. Some changes need to be made, but we’re so close. LET’S GO CANES.”
Another fan said, “I’m more proud of this team than anything. It was supposed to be a down year lol.”
Keeping in that theme, a Hurricanes fan said, “Proud of the Canes. Lots to be excited about, future is bright.”
An X user commented, “Thank y’all for another fantastic season, guys, you consistently gave me something to look forward to during classes and work in the evenings from October until May. Go Canes!!”
One fan wanted significant additions to the team over the summer and said, “Welp, at least they broke the curse. Tons of cap space and assets to work with. Eric Tulsky, please bring us true difference makers this summer.”
One Carolina fan wrote, “Not this year. Not this group. Good season, fellas. We’ll be back next year, stronger. 🏒 🏒 🏒”
One fan commented how the experience will benefit the team as a whole, “Proud of the fight. This loss, weirdly, has me ready for next season. Already got some more battle scars and experience, we will be better from this.”
Hurricanes Defeated by Panthers for the Second Time in Three Years
It’s an unfortunate case of history repeating itself for the Hurricanes against the Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final. Just two years ago, the Panthers swept the Hurricanes to advance to what was the first of three straight appearances in the Stanley Cup Final.
Last year, after another strong regular season, the Hurricanes were defeated in the Conference Semifinal by the New York Rangers. The Hurricanes managed to finish second overall in the Metropolitan Division this season but were once again unable to get past their nemesis, Florida.
