The Carolina Hurricanes were unable to capitalize on the momentum from their Game 1 victory over the Washington Capitals in the second round of the postseason, dropping a 3-1 final score at Capital One Arena.
What was once a 1-0 series lead is now tied at one game apiece as the series now moves to Raleigh for Games 3 and 4.
Hurricane Fans Direct Anger Towards Brent Burns
While many Hurricanes fans were satisfied with the road series split, plenty of fans expressed frustration with the disappointing performance of defenseman Brent Burns.
This fan demanded the team leave Burns in Washington D.C., saying, “Leave Burns at the team hotel.”
Another fan remained somewhat optimistic with a caveat, saying, “1-1 on the road is as ideal as it gets, but you have to get Burns out of the lineup. Cost us on 2 of the 3 goals and will be a lot more if he doesn’t sit.”
This fan had a sarcastic message for Burns, exclaiming, “Thank you BRENT BURNS for the go ahead goal!!!”
This fan exclaimed, “Terrible game tonight, Burns is terrible but that’s a broken record at this point. But would 100% rather be 1-1 on the road than 0-2 like last season. Need to defend home ice in Raleigh now.”
This fan wants to know, “Can someone with media credibility ask Rod why he’s playing Burns 20 minutes a night?”
Keeping in that theme, this fan demanded to know, “Seriously, someone in the Canes media needs to ask why Nikishin isn’t playing over ass Orlov or Burns?
And finally, this fan wants to see prospect Alexander Nikishin’s insertion into the lineup, saying, “Completely self inflicted loss, burns and orlov were especially bad and our pp couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn, Nikishin needs to come in for burns or orlov but Rod would rather see this team eliminated than make a “veteran” sit even for the good of the team.”
Hurricanes Coach Rod Brind’Amour Says They Must Be Better In Game 3
As the series now moves to Raleigh, coach Rod Brind’Amour said that his club simply needs to play better.
We certainly weren’t great, that’s for sure,” he said. “I think you have to give Washington credit. I mean, they played a much better game. First goal was kind of a weird one, goes off of our defenseman for a breakaway. You don’t really see that too often, but there were plays they could have scored too that would have still made the game what it was. We have to be better, that’s for sure.
“We knew it was going to be hard. Having said that, we were still right in the game.”
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday night.
