‘I Was Shocked’ — Panthers’ Sam Bennett Reveals He Didn’t See Team’s Viral Stanley Cup Ring Stunt Coming

A hidden engraving in the Panthers’ 2025 Stanley Cup rings left Sam Bennett both shocked and amused at the team’s surprise tribute.

Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett admits he was caught completely off guard when he discovered his now-famous quote engraved inside the team’s new Stanley Cup rings.

What started as a lighthearted parade moment had quietly become part of franchise history. The surprise left Bennett laughing and a little humbled as the team unveiled their latest symbol of dominance.

How Did a Parade Quote End Up Inside Sam Bennett’s Stanley Cup Ring?

The Panthers held a private ceremony Monday evening at War Memorial Auditorium to unveil their 2025 championship rings, glittering symbols of their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories. Players, coaches, and staff gathered in formal suits as team owners Vincent and Teresa Viola personally handed out the small, velvet boxes.

When the countdown ended and the boxes were opened, Bennett’s surprise came to life. Inside the ring, beneath the engraved scores of each playoff round, were five bold words: “We apologize to no one.

“I was shocked,” Sam Bennett said with a laugh. “That was definitely a quote I said after a little bit too many drinks on the parade bus. But yeah. It’s awesome. It’s cool.”

The quote, shouted by Bennett at the team’s championship parade months earlier, quickly went viral among fans. The phrase has since become an unofficial rallying cry for the Panthers, representing their gritty, unapologetic style of play.

Panthers’ 2025 Stanley Cup Rings Carry More Than Sparkle

The new rings, designed by Jostens’ Champions Collective, feature over 450 diamonds and rubies and are made from 14-karat white and yellow gold. Two diamond-studded Stanley Cups dominate the center of the ring, symbolizing Florida’s titles in 2024 and 2025.

Palm tree engravings nod to Amerant Bank Arena, while a hidden black rat pays tribute to the Panthers’ quirky “Victory Rat” tradition that began in 1996. Every ring also includes the names of the teams Florida defeated: Tampa Bay, Toronto, Carolina, and Edmonton, etched around the interior band.

“It’s just a little bit bigger than last year,” Sam Bennett told reporters. “You got the two Cups on there, which is unbelievable. They definitely outdid themselves, for sure.”

The event itself carried deep emotion for the organization. Team owners and executives thanked players, families, and arena staff for their dedication through two intense playoff runs.

“I never believed that owning a sports team could be as invigorating, as heart-touching, that you’d care about the players when they get hurt,” Teresa Viola said in a heartfelt toast before the reveal.

The Panthers’ second consecutive championship capped a dominant postseason where Sam Bennett once again played a crucial role, earning last year’s Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

Now, with the rings in hand and the banner set to rise, the focus shifts to the future. Florida opens its 2025-26 campaign Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks at home, chasing what could become a historic three-peat.
