Brad Marchand has made a career out of stepping up when it matters most, and Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final was no exception.
The 37-year-old veteran led the charge for the Florida Panthers on Saturday night, netting two crucial goals in a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. With the series now tilted 3-2 in Florida’s favor, the Panthers are just one victory away from lifting the Cup for a second straight year.
Brad Marchand Puts Panthers on Brink of Glory With Game 5 Heroics
Marchand’s performance didn’t just swing the scoreboard; it turned heads across the hockey world. Former NHL forward and Oilers supporter Ryan Whitney voiced what many were thinking. “Both goals by Marchand were incredible,” he posted on X. “I can’t believe he’s on Florida. I’m disgusted.”
Still confused why Kapanen wasn’t in the lineup. Crowd seemed unreal from the start. I thought the quick turnaround would help the Oilers and the Panthers gave up nothing. Both goals by Marchand were incredible. I can’t believe he’s on Florida. Im disgusted

It’s not just about the timing of his goals; it’s the magnitude. Marchand leads all players in the Final with six goals, the highest total in a Cup series since 1988. He’s taken control of this series in a way few others have managed in recent memory.
NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette didn’t hold back in his praise either, posting, “Brad Marchand is a Hall of Famer. The conversation is over.”
All Eyes on Marchand as Florida Eyes the Finish Line
Marchand opened the scoring in the first period, beating Mattias Ekholm down the left side before sliding a low shot past Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard. His second goal came in the third period, where he maneuvered around Jack Walman and buried Florida’s third of the night, his 10th of the playoffs and third game-winner this postseason.

That tally also pushed his career playoff total to 16 game-winners, tying him for 10th all-time in NHL history.
As usual, Marchand didn’t get caught up in the moment. “Sometimes when you cheat, you get lucky,” he quipped during a postgame interview with TNT. “That was just a lucky play.”

With this latest performance, Marchand became the first player ever to score at least five goals in a Stanley Cup Final for two teams, having done so for Boston in 2011 and now with Florida. Only Mario Lemieux has come close, though all of his came in one jersey.
The puck drops Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena, and with Marchand in playoff mode, it’s tough to bet against Florida.
