The Toronto Maple Leafs have won four of their last five games, including a cinematic 5-0 shutout win over the Vancouver Canucks. The Leafs’ 2025-26 season has been more bitter than sweet, but the recent turn of events has the potential to instill some hope in the community.
Amidst dizzying and dazzling times, a former Maple Leafs player has emphasized the importance of the team in staying grounded.
Jay Rosehill Offers a Reality Check to the Toronto Maple Leafs Amid Resurgence
Dom Luszczyszyn estimated the Maple Leafs’ odds of making the playoffs to be somewhere around 49%. Furthermore, there is a 3% chance that Auston Matthews and co. make the Stanley Cup finals, and a 1% chance of lifting the Cup. The Maple Leafs’ season seemed threatened multiple times this season, primarily due to their relentless injury woes. However, last season’s Atlantic Division stars have made a comeback.
Despite a fantastic run, Rosehill cannot help but be worried. The setbacks from the initial days of this season are monumental, and according to the ex-Leafs enforcer, a lot of work remains to overcome them. There is an infectious energy flowing through the team’s members, but Rosehill warns them against letting it go to their heads.
“The Leafs are flying right now and it’s so palpable. Everyone’s connected, there’s chemistry, you can see it on their faces. It has directly lead to this great play as of late. They’re still in a huge hole and this next week is going to be huge. It might define the season,” Rosehill shared on his X account.Â
The Maple Leafs are embarking on a spectacular road trip. The team will meet the formidable Colorado Avalanche on January 12, before being hosted by the Utah Mammoth, the Vegas Golden Knights, and finally returning to Canada to face the Winnipeg Jets.
The showdown against the Avs could prove instrumental in assessing the Leafs’ status. “It’ll be a big challenge for us,” stated William Nylander on Toronto’s upcoming match with Colorado, as shared by David Pagnotta on X. Nylander, who had fallen into a slump this season, had a goal and two assists in the Leafs’ 5-0 domination over the Canucks.
“We’ve got some tough games (ahead). . . We’ve been playing well, playing hard,” Matias Maccelli stated. The winger had one goal against the Canucks on Saturday.
Despite the challenges that lie ahead for the team, the fact remains that the Maple Leafs have come a significant way from the extremely dire conditions they faced earlier in the season. At one point, Craig Berube’s tenure with the Leafs seemed threatened, and so did Matthews’. Through their recent exploits, the Maple Leafs have proved that they have a lot of fight left in them.
