Elliotte Friedman Suggests Oilers May Consider Tristan Jarry for Game 4 vs Ducks

The Edmonton Oilers are feeling the heat after another loss to the Anaheim Ducks, a result that has shifted early control of the series. Connor Ingram’s performance is now under the spotlight as his promising start has failed to carry through in Game 2 and Game 3. In both these games, late breakdowns have undone the group’s early efforts. Gaps in coverage and slow reads have made it tougher to hold leads when the game speeds up.

With the series moving ahead, the focus is now turning toward Tristan Jarry and a decision that could influence what comes next.

Insider Suggests Oilers Could Turn to Tristan Jarry as Game 4 Decision Looms

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman brought that conversation into focus when discussing Edmonton’s situation after Game 3, indicating that a switch in net could be on the table. He pointed out that while the spotlight has landed on Connor Ingram, the issue extends beyond a single player and reflects broader team struggles.

Still, he noted that the Oilers “are going to have some big decisions to make,” adding that it would not be surprising if they “talk about whether they want to go to Jarry for Game 3.”

This perspective aligns with how the series has unfolded so far. Ingram has handled the starting role since taking over earlier in the season, delivering a win in the opening game but facing increasing pressure as the Ducks found ways to break through. In Game 3, Edmonton allowed 4 goals in the third period, highlighting how quickly the control can shift when coverage breaks down and timely saves are missed.

Analyst Kelly Hrudey agreed to Friedman’s point, suggesting a change may already be gaining traction within the organization. “They’ll have the discussion. There’s no doubt about it. I think it’s just minutes after the loss, but I would be leaning towards Jarry right now,” he said.

Hrudey also pointed to specific moments in Game 3 that illustrated the challenge. After Anaheim regained the lead, a quick follow-up goal widened the gap, and he noted that was a situation where “they just needed a save.”

He acknowledged that some of the goals came from high-quality plays, including skilled finishes and precise passing sequences, but emphasized that playoff hockey often turns on those key stops that shift momentum.

At the same time, Edmonton’s defensive play has not made life easy for its goaltenders. Missed assignments, slow recoveries, and open lanes have allowed Anaheim to generate dangerous chances off the rush and around the net. Players have recognized that responsibility, noting that structure in front of the crease must improve regardless of who starts.

Jarry, acquired earlier in the season, presents an alternative option with experience, though his consistency has been questioned at times. Even so, a switch could offer a reset in a series where momentum has begun to lean toward Anaheim.

With Game 4 approaching, the Oilers face a decision that could define their path forward. Whether they stay with Ingram or turn to Jarry, the margin for error has narrowed, and the next move carries significant weight.
