Red Wings Star Patrick Kane Sends 5-Word Klaxon Call on Buffalo Bills’ HC Search

It’s an interesting time in the NFL. Since the turn of the year, a slate of head coach exits has left the door open for what appears to be the most significant churn at the position in recent history. The Buffalo Bills also chose to jump on that bandwagon, firing Sean McDermott after a playoff loss that was anything but straightforward.

With the Bills officially in the market for a new head coach, Detroit Red Wings star Patrick Kane has a pretty strong opinion on whom his hometown team should hire to bring a Super Bowl to Buffalo.

Red Wings’ Patrick Kane Lobbies for Bills To Hire Brian Daboll

Kane, a Buffalo native, appears to have his finger on the pulse in this head coach carousel. After ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bills have lined up an interview with former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, Kane was quick to tweet his thoughts on the matter.

“Let’s go bring him home!” Kane tweeted, lobbying for Josh Allen’s former offensive coordinator. Kane certainly has a point.

Given the fact that Daboll has already called plays for Allen and knows what he needs from that perspective, Daboll’s familiarity would make for a relatively easy transition, post-McDermott.

Daboll also grew up 10 minutes from the Bills’ stadium, something that would no doubt endear him to the fanbase.

As things stand, the Bills are still in the process of lining up interviews, and one school of thought is that Daboll could rejoin the franchise as the offensive coordinator with current OC Joe Brady taking over as head coach. That would represent the best of both worlds for the Bills, but there’s still a long way to go before they make a call.

Over on Patrick Kane’s side of things, the Detroit Red Wings are sitting pretty in second in the Atlantic Division after they came out with a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators, moving to 2-0 on the season against their division rivals.

For Kane, though, history beckons. He’s just three points away from surpassing Mike Modano’s tally for the most among United States-born NHL players. Kane, currently sitting at 1,372 points (500 goals, 872 assists) in 1,337 games, will have the opportunity to add to that tally when the Red Wings take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 21.

It’s pertinent to note that Modano had 1,374 points (561 goals, 813 assists) in 1,499 games. For what it’s worth, Kane has a pretty decent record against the Leafs. He has 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) in 32 games against Toronto, though if the Red Wings are to get anything from this game, they will have to put the clamps on Auston Matthews, who is in sizzling form to start the year.
