Connor McDavid’s Wife Reacts As Oilers Star Raises Several Questions With $25 Million Contract Extension

Connor McDavid's wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid, has shown her support for her husband's latest two-year, $25 million deal and what it means for the Edmonton community.

It’s official, just one day before the start of the 2025-26 NHL season, all eyes are on the Edmonton Oilers franchise.

Oilers fans have plenty to celebrate, with league veteran and star Connor McDavid signing a two-year, $25 million deal. The latest extension will kick in at the start of the 2026-27 campaign, keeping the 28-year-old center under team control for three seasons. He has one more season remaining on the eight-year, $12.5 million AAV deal that he signed on July 5, 2017, a year before his entry-level contract was set to expire.

And while this was a move everyone saw coming from a mile away, McDavid would not have made it here without the support he receives from fans, family, and friends.

Lauren Kyle McDavid Shows Her Support for Connor McDavid’s Latest Contract

Lauren Kyle McDavid has been married to the Canadian native since 2024, with their engagement occurring in 2023 after the pair had known each other since their teenage years.

Lauren is a fellow Canadian native who is currently a designer and bar owner. The downtown Edmonton restaurant/bar “Bar Trove” opened earlier this year. It’s been reported that she moved to Edmonton in 2019 and moved in with McDavid in 2021.

She has supported McDavid throughout his success, including, but not limited to, his winning the Hart three times, the Art Ross five times, the Rocket Richard Trophy in 2022-23, and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2024.

Lauren took to her Instagram story to celebrate McDavid’s latest deal. She reposted his Instagram story with the caption, “our journey here continues.”

In the 2024 season, McDavid became just the fourth youngest and fourth fastest player in NHL history, reaching 1,000 points at 27 years, 306 days, and 659 games. He’s up to 1,082 points in 712 games throughout his career. He also has 150 points in 96 playoff contests, which puts him third behind Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux at 1.53 points per game.

McDavid is 28 years old and stands at 6’1″; he’s amassed 1,082 points (361 goals, 721 assists) across 712 regular-season games with the Oilers.

As Colin D’Cunha with PFSN previously wrote upon the contract news this afternoon, the deal was slightly surprising in that most analysts pencilled McDavid in for around $16 million a year. However, McDavid’s number does provide Edmonton with more wiggle room in terms of cap space and other players who will be up for extensions of their own.

It can only be assumed that both McDavids hope to see the Oilers win the Stanley Cup, especially after coming off back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances.
