Connor McDavid’s Wife Watches On As Oilers Get Sloppy in Season-Opening Loss vs. Flames

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid's wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid, marked her presence at the team's home opener at Rogers Place

The Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames met at Rogers Place on Wednesday for a hockey extravaganza. The Oilers’ home opener ended in a way that was far from the outcome that the men in blue and orange and the fanbase had hoped for, but the season has only started, and there are plenty of games to look forward to.

Just before the season began, the Oilers management and captain Connor McDavid finally concluded their seemingly never-ending contract discussions; McDavid signed a two-year, $12.5 million AAV contract to stay in Edmonton. McDavid’s contract will, in a way, compel the Oilers to up their game, because there is a real possibility that he could explore other destinations otherwise. But for now, McDavid is leading the team, and Lauren Kyle McDavid is cheering him on as she always does.

How Did Lauren Kyle Support Connor McDavid at the Edmonton Oilers’ Home Opener?

Nobody hypes the Oilers up quite like Lauren Kyle: from taking sneaky jabs at the Florida Panthers during the Stanley Cup finals to launching an entire line of sportswear that is just the right combination of fashion and comfort, Kyle is a smart and savvy businesswoman in her own right. Moreover, she is vocal about her support for McDavid and the Oilers. Her presence in the stands has been consistent in Oilers’ games.

Kyle was at the Oilers vs. Flames home opener at Rogers Place on Wednesday to cheer for captain McDavid. Kyle shared a picture of a giant LED screen displaying the Oilers captain’s picture. Edmonton was leading 3-0 midway through the game, but fell short of the Flames 4-3, when Calgary made a remarkable comeback and was unstoppable in the second and third periods.

McDavid was brilliant, per usual. The standout center delivered a multi-point performance against the Flames and was one of the three, the other two being Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, to do so. The team’s power-play unit stood out despite the Oilers’ loss and enabled Edmonton’s strong start. “Edmonton’s top-unit power play of McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Tomasek and Bouchard capitalized on the game’s first penalty assessed to Morgan Frost for putting the puck over the glass, flashing the puck towards the blue paint through 97 and 29 and setting up 93 at the far post for the 1-0 advantage,” noted the team’s official website.

The Oilers’ home opener defeat could be primarily attributed to miscommunication between Stuart Skinner and Evan Bouchard. The goalie has assured that the deficit is clearly fixable, which gives Edmonton hope for the rest of the season. So far as Kyle is concerned, you know she will be present for the team at every game and through all its ups and downs.
