The Edmonton Oilers came back from the Olympic break with a clear need to respond after a short losing stretch. The team delivered a complete effort and found its scoring touch again in a big win. Their top players drove the game from the opening minutes, and the result changed the conversation around the group.
That performance also set up an important personal milestone for their captain.
Connor McDavid’s 100-Point Night Draws Reaction From Lauren Kyle
Connor McDavid reached another major mark during Edmonton’s 8–1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, as he recorded a goal and an assist.
This effort pushed him to 100 points for the season, making it the ninth time in his career he has reached that number. It also extended his run to six straight seasons with 100 points, which places him among the most productive players in league history.
The milestone came in just 60 games, which again shows how quickly McDavid is producing this season. He reached the mark after setting up Leon Draisaitl on a power-play goal, continuing the chemistry between the two franchise stars.
With that assist, McDavid moved into third place for the most 100-point seasons, trailing only Wayne Gretzky (15) and Mario Lemieux (10) on the all-time list. Earlier, he was tied with Marcel Dionne, who also had 8 100-point seasons.
Away from the ice, the moment was also shared by his wife, Lauren Kyle, who reacted on Instagram. She posted a photo from the game and wrote, “100 points go, baby!”

The win itself was important for Edmonton, as it ended a four-game losing streak and helped the team regain ground in the standings. Draisaitl finished with one goal and three assists, while Zach Hyman added a goal and two assists.
The Oilers scored twice early in the first period and stayed in control for the rest of the game, limiting the Kings’ push.
With the result, Edmonton improved to 29-23-8 and remains in a strong position within the Western Conference playoff race, only below Vegas. The team has relied heavily on its top players for production, and that trend continues as McDavid leads the league in scoring.
McDavid also remains ahead of players like Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov, who are also having strong seasons.
McDavid’s current form also follows his recent success with Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where he helped the team reach the final and earned tournament MVP honors with 13 points. That performance carried into the NHL season, where he continues to produce at a high level.
As the season moves forward, Edmonton will look to build on this result and stay in the playoff picture.
