The Edmonton Oilers’ 2025–26 campaign has been a mix of highs and lows, with moments of strong play followed by stretches of inconsistency. But in the middle of it all, Connor McDavid continues to be the team’s driving force. His ability to step up in crucial moments remains the difference between a win and a loss for Edmonton.
Off the ice, McDavid shares that same sense of closeness with his wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid. Their long relationship reflects the same commitment and support that Oilers fans see from their captain on the ice. This week, as McDavid led Edmonton to an overtime victory, Lauren’s reaction showed how much she shares in his success.
How Did Lauren React as Connor McDavid Lifted the Oilers Past the Blue Jackets?
Monday night in Edmonton gave fans another glimpse of Connor McDavid at his best. The Oilers were trailing the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1 after the second period when McDavid took over. He scored twice to cut the Blue Jackets’ lead to 4-3 before Jake Walman’s short-handed goal sent the game to overtime. Jack Roslovic finished the comeback with an overtime goal. The Oilers won 5-4, earning an important two points in a game that could have slipped away.
After the game, McDavid acknowledged the team’s tendency to make things difficult for themselves but praised their resilience.
“The group likes to put itself in a tough spot and just when you think it’s a tough spot, we go a little bit further,” McDavid said, via NHL.com. “Then we decide it’s time to go. We stuck with it. We put ourselves in a tough spot, but we’re good at coming from behind. We found a way. It’s not the prettiest way to win a game, but a win nonetheless and we move on.”
Lauren celebrated her husband’s effort with a short and cheerful post on Instagram. She shared a clip of his goal and added a simple caption: “Weee.” Lauren has often supported McDavid publicly, from cheering during playoff runs to attending ceremonies marking his career milestones, including his 1,000th NHL point.

McDavid, 28, continues to lead the Oilers’ offense with 24 points in 17 games this season. He averages more than 23 minutes of ice time and remains effective both at even strength and on the power play. His leadership and consistency keep Edmonton competitive even when the team’s defense and goaltending face challenges.

Away from hockey, McDavid and Lauren’s relationship has grown alongside his career. They first met on a blind-ish date in 2015 and got engaged eight years later in June 2023. Their wedding took place in 2024 at Lake Muskoka, a favorite spot for the couple. Lauren, an interior designer and entrepreneur, runs Kyle & Co Design Studio and owns Bar Trove, a cocktail bar in Edmonton.
McDavid is in the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract. In October, he signed a two-year, $25 million extension that begins in the 2026–27 season. As the Oilers push through another competitive season, his presence remains key to their success.
