Connor McDavid’s Wife Issues 3-Word Message as Oilers Push Elimination Can Down the Road in Game 5 Win

The Edmonton Oilers were backed into a corner entering Game 5, and responded like a team not ready for its season to end. Their commanding 4-1 win over Anaheim cut the series deficit to 3-2 and kept their playoff hopes alive.

And amid the relief of extending the series, Connor McDavid’s wife added a lighthearted touch, sharing a simple three-word message that quickly caught fans’ attention.

Connor McDavid’s Wife Sends 3-Word Message

After entering the series as favorites following another roller-coaster regular season and back-to-back Stanley Cup Final runs, Edmonton found itself in trouble after dropping three straight to Anaheim. The Oilers won Game 1 4-3, then lost 6-4 in Game 2, 7-4 in Game 3, and suffered a controversial 4-3 overtime defeat in Game 4.

But Game 5 felt like a reset. Facing elimination, Edmonton delivered one of its best performances of the postseason and forced a Game 6, slated to be played in Anaheim on Thursday.

Connor McDavid played a huge part in that. After being listed as a game-time decision heading into the matchup, the Oilers captain suited up and made an immediate impact, recording two assists in the win and helping drive Edmonton’s early surge.

Off the ice, his wife, Lauren Kyle, added her own reaction. She shared an Instagram story featuring herself with friends and a simple three-word caption: “Game time decision.” The post appeared to poke fun at the buildup surrounding McDavid’s status and quickly caught the attention of fans online.

It was a lighthearted moment in a series that has otherwise been anything but easy for Edmonton.

McDavid has not looked entirely like his usual dominant self this postseason, prompting questions about fatigue and health. That’s notable, considering he led the NHL with 138 points in the regular season and entered the playoffs expected to carry the Oilers on another deep run.

He was held pointless in the first two games of the series, and some have wondered whether the wear from back-to-back Cup runs, international play, and a long season has taken a toll.

Even McDavid admitted the Oilers haven’t been at their sharpest. “I don’t think we’ve been at our best,” he said after Game 5. “We just found a way tonight… we’ve got to get one win at a time, and we’ve got to go win a big one on Thursday.”

Despite pregame concern over his health, McDavid dismissed the idea that he was close to sitting out. “Never, never, never close,” he said when asked if he considered missing the game.

That alone was encouraging for Edmonton. Now the Oilers still face a steep climb, needing a road win in Game 6 to force a winner-takes-all Game 7.

But after staring down elimination, Edmonton has given itself a chance. And judging by the mood after Game 5, from McDavid’s confident comments to Lauren Kyle’s playful post, belief is still very much alive.
