Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is the best player in the world, and milestones come naturally to him. The same has happened this month, as it was becoming obvious early in 2026. After a 34-point run in December and a 25-point run in January, the star forward reached his ninth 100-point season in February.
Now his March run has once again placed him in another category, paired with hockey’s greats.
Connor McDavid Hits 1,200 Points and 400 Goals in Oilers Win
Connor McDavid scored twice on Tuesday as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Utah Mammoth 5-2. His performance included his 400th career goal and his 1,200th point, both reached in the same game. The second goal came late into an empty net, which sealed the result and marked the milestone moment.
By reaching 1,200 points in 784 games, McDavid became the third-fastest player in NHL history to reach that number. Only Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux reached it quicker, doing so in 324 and 539 games, respectively. This places McDavid in a small group of elite players. He continues to rank among the league’s top scorers and forms the core of Edmonton’s offense.
After the game, McDavid spoke about what the milestone meant to him in a broader sense. He said, “That’s fair. That being said, when you’re getting up to some of these bigger numbers, it’s a reflection of time passed. It’s my 11th year in this league and you don’t get those back. Very grateful to play in this league and play with some great players.”
The Oilers received support from other players in the same game, which helped them secure the win. Jack Roslovic scored twice, and Evan Bouchard added three assists, giving Edmonton enough offense throughout the night. Tristan Jarry made 16 saves and managed the game well in his first appearance since a 7-2 loss against the Dallas Stars.
McDavid’s season numbers continue to grow as he keeps producing in different ways. He has reached 40 goals this season and has 118 points through 72 games, which keeps him near the top of the scoring race. His offense remains important for Edmonton as they push toward the playoffs.
McDavid has scored 40 goals after a two-season gap, for the first time since his 64-goal season in 2022-23. Talking about this, he said, “Goal scoring is something that has not come easy to me or naturally to me… I’m fortunate to have scored a couple goals in this league.”
That was a grounded answer, but his current form shows he is still finding ways to make an impact when it matters. The Oilers now prepare for their next game against the Vegas Golden Knights, looking to build on this result.
