Brady Tkachuk Set to Miss Senators’ Exit Interview For a Very Good Reason

The Ottawa Senators’ dream of a deep postseason run was brutally cut short by the dominant Carolina Hurricanes in a clean sweep. Despite their overarching efforts throughout the regular season, the Senators’ playoff fate remained unchanged from last season.

After such an unceremonious end to the playoffs, questions have arisen about Brady Tkachuk’s future with the Sens. Unfortunately, that question, and the rest, will need to wait because the team’s captain is expected to miss the exit interview for a very special reason.

Brady Tkachuk Expected to Miss Media Interaction As He Welcomes a Child

The Senators made the playoffs for the second consecutive time this season, but failed to keep up with experienced postseason performers, the Hurricanes. The Canes, who have now progressed to Eastern Conference semifinal for the eighth time in a row, made history by becoming the 20th team in the NHL to never trail in a best-of-7 series.

As for Ottawa, the team has to wait around another season to give this playoff business another shot. However, whether Tkachuk will be a part of such plans remains to be seen. If fans were expecting him to shed some light on his future with the Senators during the exit interview, journalist Claire Hanna has shared that Tkachuk has welcomed a child with his wife Emma, and is expected to be absent from any media interaction for the time being.

Hockey fans will have to wait to hear from Tkachuk himself about his plans. However, if he decides to part ways with the franchise this offseason, it would hardly come as a surprise. The way the postseason ended was far from how the winger would have wanted.

Moreover, the 26-year-old has been the target of strong criticism for a thoroughly underwhelming playoff performance against the Canes: Tkachuk failed to register a single point in four games.

The winger also raised some eyebrows by being unable to keep his emotions in check on the ice, resulting in frequent trips to the penalty box. Tkachuk is an asset to the Senators, but only when he is playing for the team rather than being sidelined due to hot-headed decisions. The 26-year-old winger had at least one penalty in each of the four games.

After a second consecutive postseason ended prematurely, it makes sense for Tkachuk to consider a change of scenery to join the ranks of a more competitive team. David Pagnotta even went so far as to suggest he would be surprised if Tkachuk is still playing in Ottawa next season.

Despite the lackluster showing in the playoffs and the overall injury struggles this year, Tkachuk is bound to attract league-wide attention if at all he becomes available on the market. It is safe to say that his future with the team will be a subject of heavy interest this summer.
