The acquisition of Brad Marchand by the Florida Panthers ultimately proved to be one of the all-time NHL Trade Deadline pickups by any NHL team in the last several years.
Not only did Marchand bring a new level of leadership to the team that was already the defending Stanley Cup champion, but he helped them repeat as Cup winners by scoring six goals in the Stanley Cup Final alone as Florida, once again, beat the Edmonton Oilers.
Speaking of the Oilers, Marchand isn’t about to let them forget about what transpired and how Florida is, once again, celebrating at their expense. That’s especially true after an incident that took place in Game 1 of this season’s series.
Brad Marchand Took A Jab At Oilers Defenseman Jake Walman
For those who don’t remember, the Oilers took a 1-0 series lead over the Panthers with a dramatic overtime victory in Game One.
Leon Draisaitl scored his second goal of the night on an overtime power play. It was made possible when Panthers forward Tomas Nosek accidentally cleared the puck over the glass in his defensive zone, resulting in a delay-of-game penalty.
On his way to the penalty box, Nosek was laughed at by Oilers defenseman Jake Walman in an incident that soon made the rounds all over social media.
Marchand had some fun at Walman’s expense yet again with a jab on social media. While commenting on a social media post showing Walman laughing in Nosek’s face, Marchand wrote, “Think he’s still laughing?”

Walman wasn’t laughing in Game 5 in Edmonton when Marchand deked around him before scoring what would ultimately prove to be the game-winning goal in Florida’s 5-2 victory. That put the Panthers one game away from repeating as Cup winners.
To Walman’s credit, he did have another top moment during the Stanley Cup Final. Walman scored a go-ahead goal for Edmonton in Game 5, giving the Oilers a 4-3 lead after being down to Florida 3-0.
As he’s done so often throughout his NHL career, it was Marchand who had the last laugh as he and his teammates continue celebrating with the Stanley Cup.
Like Marchand, Walman was an NHL Trade Deadline acquisition for Edmonton. He was acquired from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a first-round draft selection. Walman had been leading the Sharks in points by a defenseman before the deal.
