Jordan Kyrou, one of the St. Louis Blues’ top forwards, may be open to a fresh start in Montreal. According to recent reports, the 27-year-old has shown a willingness to waive his no-trade clause if a deal can be struck with the Canadiens.
The news comes just a week after the full clause went into effect on July 1.
St. Louis Blues Star Jordan Kyrou Reportedly Open to Joining Canadiens
Kyrou is in the third season of an eight-year, $65 million deal he signed back in 2022. Despite his strong numbers – 36, 31, and 37 goals over the past three seasons – his name has continued to pop up in trade chatter, particularly linked to Montreal.
With Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes actively reshaping the roster this offseason, insiders suggest Kyrou has emerged as a top target.
Hughes has already made waves with deals for Noah Dobson and Zachary Bolduc, and it appears he isn’t finished yet.
Jordan Kyrou Could Fill Montreal’s Second-Line Center Void
Behind the scenes, the Blues are reportedly considering moving on from Kyrou, whose $8.125 million annual cap hit makes him their highest-paid player. While Kyrou remains productive, there’s a growing belief within the organization that younger players like Jake Neighbours, Jimmy Snuggerud, and Justin Carbonneau could step into his role at a fraction of the cost.
That opens the door for Montreal. The Canadiens are still looking for a second-line forward to support their emerging stars, and Kyrou fits the bill. While he’s primarily a winger, he has experience down the middle and could provide temporary cover at center until Michael Hage arrives.
Talks of a potential trade have reportedly centered around Mike Matheson. The veteran defenseman, with a cap hit of $4.8 million, could be part of a package heading to St. Louis. The Blues, especially after parting ways with Torey Krug, are known to be searching for top-four help on the blue line.

Of course, it’s not likely to be a one-for-one deal. Other assets, possibly a prospect or pick, would be needed to balance things out. Montreal’s cap situation is tight, but moving Matheson would give them some breathing room.
There’s also a personal connection helping fuel the speculation. Kyrou shares an agent with Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki, and reports claim the two have discussed the idea of playing together. That relationship, paired with Kyrou’s reported willingness to waive his clause, strengthens the possibility of a deal.
At this point, nothing is imminent. But multiple sources suggest that the Canadiens’ interest is real, and Kyrou’s openness to the move is certainly interesting. If Kent Hughes can thread the financial needle, Kyrou could soon find himself wearing bleu, blanc et rouge.

The only trade i possibly see is Hage and Reinbacher… Thats it and i doubt Army does that.
