The Montreal Canadiens have impressed everyone with their start to the 2025–26 season. They made the playoffs last year for the first time since 2021. Now, they have a 7-3-0 record and sit first in the Atlantic Division.
This season, their offense has improved the most, as they are averaging 3.60 goals per game. Captain Nick Suzuki and forward Cole Caufield are leading the O-zone responsibilities. Suzuki has 13 points, and Caufield has seven goals. However, their defense needs to improve from their current average of 3.00 goals per game.
Is Montreal Canadiens Prospect Thinking About Coming to Canada?
A video from HFTV sparked a buzz among Canadiens fans this week. The video claimed that Alexander Zharovsky, a Canadiens prospect, wants to come to Canada soon.
In the clip, HFTV’s insider, who was reportedly earlier part of breaking the Ivan Demodov’s move to Habs story, said:
“I have some interesting news to report for you guys about Zhorovskiy. He wants is to be in Canada soon. Soon, in terms of where he’s at in his development next year.”
Zharovsky is an 18-year-old forward from Klin, Russia. The Canadiens drafted him 34th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. General manager Kent Hughes traded picks 41 and 49 to Carolina for picks 34 and 189 to select him.
When asked if that meant before or after the Olympics, the insider replied, “After. I guess it’d depend on how long the run is.”
When asked about his current KHL contract, which runs till 2027, he said that it will not be a problem.
“That’s not very long from now,” the insider said. “Soon will be in 2026, and then that’ll be next year. Is Geoff Molson gonna be intimidated by a little KHL contract? Absolutely not.”
NHL agent Dan Milstein responded to the HFTV video on X, saying the story was fake. Milstein claimed that there are no current plans for Zharovsky to move to Canada.
“No insider. No truth. Just fake news and self-promotion. Alex Zharovskiy is under KHL contract until 2027. #WeAreGoldStar!” Milstein wrote.
Zharovsky is under a KHL contract with Salavat Yulaev Ufa until 2027, so a move now would be unlikely. Even so, a mutual contract termination scenario exists if both Zharovsky and his KHL team decide to part ways.
The Canadiens have built a strong group of young players, and Zharovsky could be an important part of it in the coming years. He has played well for Yulaev Ufa, scoring four goals and five assists for nine points this season. Scouts see him as a fast skater with strong puck skills, and with development, he could become a top-six forward.
