Tony Romo’s journey to the NFL is an incredible story. No team wanted to invest a draft pick in the Eastern Illinois quarterback, but somehow he landed a spot with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2003.
Fast forward four years, and Romo found himself starting for the Cowboys, where he’d enjoy his first of four Pro Bowl seasons. While Romo had an excellent career, appearing in games for 14 seasons, he never won a Super Bowl. Yet, he still accomplished a lot for a former undrafted QB.
Romo has stayed busy since retiring at the end of the 2016 season, working as a broadcaster for CBS and frequently working on his golf game. But now the former Cowboys QB is creating headlines for different reasons.
NFL World Reacts to Tony Romo’s Arrest
On Friday, TMZ Sports reported that Romo was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI). Romo was jailed for the offense on Thursday night.
He was reportedly pulled over on I-43 while crossing a high-rise bridge, when officers took him into custody after Romo “performed poorly on several field sobriety tests.”
As you can imagine, when a former NFL QB, especially one who’s still maintained such a high-profile job in the public eye, faces trouble, the world has a lot of reactions. That’s no different this time either.
So, what was Romo doing in Wisconsin to begin with? Playing golf, competing in the Wisconsin Amateur.

“Romo was playing in the Wisconsin Amateur,” Monday Q Info wrote on X. “He was +35 (course was insanely hard, winner shot +3) and seems he was arrested the night of the final round.”

PFT Commenter was quick to chime in, saying, “OOOOOHHHHGN HERE WE GO GIN.”
It’s an obvious reference to Romo’s work on NFL TV broadcasts, where he can excitingly be heard saying, “Here we go, Jim,” referring to his TV partner Jim Nantz, who works in the booth with Romo; only PFT Commenter cleverly substituted the word Jim for gin instead.

Cazh Ragan on X cleverly repeated the same phrase that Romo commonly relies on, but tied it to his current situation instead. He wrote, “How many drinks have you had Tony? Eh, I don’t know jiiiiiiiiiiiim”

This is the first time Romo has been arrested. Judging from the reactions, Romo likely hopes it’s the last time, too.
