The 2026-27 NFL season is still months away, but there’s already plenty of speculation over who will headline the Super Bowl 61 halftime show.
There’s always plenty of speculation and debate over the Super Bowl halftime show headliner, and this year is no different. No official decision has been made on who will be the halftime performer at the upcoming Super Bowl, but the current betting favorite is Miley Cyrus… which the NFL world isn’t thrilled about.
NFL World Isn’t Excited About Miley Cyrus Potentially Headlining Super Bowl Halftime Show
Miley Cyrus is a pop singer who blends rock and country into her music. She initially rose to fame by playing Hannah Montana in the Disney Channel show of the same name. Now, she is a global pop icon who has won multiple Grammy awards including Record of the Year for her song “Flowers” in 2024.
While Cyrus has fans of many different ages, some NFL observers argued that she doesn’t seem like a good fit for the Super Bowl halftime show.
“According to reports, Miley Cyrus is emerging as the ‘favorite’ to perform at half-time of Super Bowl 61 in Southern California. NFL fans have mixed reactions to that news, mostly negative,” Marc Lawrence wrote on X. “I understand. ‘Hannah Montana’ and the NFL are simply not a good mix. Sort of like a ‘Wrecking Ball.'”

“I just found out that Miley Cyrus might be the next Super Bowl halftime performer. They need to change the NFL to NHFL (No Hope Football League) from now on. I’d rather listen to Freddy Krueger scratching a chalkboard for 20 minutes,” added one user.

There were quite a few negative comments about Cyrus potentially headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, with some people throwing out alternatives.
“Nobody wants this. If they want country/pop can we get Kane Brown?” another user asked.

Several users urged the NFL and Apple Music to select Metallica as the Super Bowl halftime act, while acknowledging that it’s unlikely since they usually try to reach a younger demographic.
“I’d rather see Metallica for 20 minutes, but I have come to grips with the fact that we’re not going to get that halftime show,” one user said.
“Metallica or no one,” added another user.

The legendary band seems to be a popular option; however, the most recent bands to headline the Super Bowl halftime show were Maroon 5 (2019) and Coldplay (2016).
It will be interesting to see who gets the official nod for the halftime show, and if the rumors of Cyrus are true. Regardless, there’s no way to please everyone.
As one user summed up, “Another year, another reason not to watch the Super Bowl Halftime Show.”
