The 2026 NFL Offseason is underway, but while most of the focus is currently on the NFL Draft, free agency has yet to occur. Teams have begun creating a free agency plan for players they want or positions to target, but one question that remains unanswered is the official 2026 cap space.
The NFL previously announced the range of possible cap space for 2026, but the official number has now been given to teams.
Official 2026 Cap Space News Is Out, NFL World Reacts
Each year, the NFL first gives teams a range for how much the entire league’s cap space will increase. This number increases with the league’s revenue, and in 2026 it rose again. Officially, the NFL’s cap space for 2026 is $301,200,000, an increase of $22M from last year’s.
This is excellent news for teams across the NFL, as they now know how much space they will have in free agency. After the news broke, people throughout the NFL World had their reactions.
Dallas Cowboys beat reporter RJ Ochoa joked about the team’s cap space increase and star WR George Pickens’ franchise-tag number. He wrote, “That $22M is almost the George Pickens franchise tag lol.”

Buffalo Bills podcaster Greg Tompsett pointed out what the final cap space number revealed about the NFL’s original range.
“Yuck… that’s at the lowest end of the projected range, and a smaller % increase than 2024 to 2025 was. This isn’t a huge deal for teams tight against the cap like the Bills… but it could have been $3-4M better.”
