Jalen Carter has been one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has spent his entire career with the franchise but has recently been connected to trade rumors. Many around the league reacted to the possibility of him being moved this year.
Analysts React to Philadelphia Eagles’ Trade Calls on Jalen Carter
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently provided a report with updates around the league as the free agency period approaches. One of the more surprising notes is that the Eagles have apparently “received trade calls on Carter” as they “weigh whether to extend him” with his contract reportedly being negotiated.
“Wouldn’t be surprised at all if Jalen Carter is dealt,” YouTube football analyst Garret Greenlee said.
The star defensive tackle is entering the final year of his current contract, so the Eagles have a major decision to make about his future. They recently extended their other interior defensive lineman, Jordan Davis, sparking speculation about what general manager Howie Roseman has in mind.

“What Howie Roseman and the Eagles have to be careful about: Deciding to keep the nice guy and good player (Jordan Davis) over the great player, who’s got some edge (Jalen Carter),” NFL analyst Chase Senior of Eagles Now said.

Philadelphia also has a decision to make on edge defender Jaelan Phillips, who is currently pending free agency. Theoretically, extending him and Davis may give some insight into their intentions for Carter.
“Paying Phillips $20 million isn’t crazy … it would almost certainly mean the Jalen Carter smoke is real,” YouTube NFL analyst Marcus Whitman added.
Exactly my thoughts. In a vacuum, paying Phillips $20M isn’t crazy.
But his injury history is terrifying & usually the type of thing that tanks a guy’s market & it would almost certainly mean the Jalen Carter smoke is real..which would be very good news for the rest of the NFC https://t.co/pLM6MTShdn

Carter has finished among the top eight defensive tackles in PFSN’s Impact Rankings during each of his three seasons in Philadelphia. This suggests that he is seeking to become one of the highest-paid players at his position, and he deserves it. This could be why the Eagles are potentially seeking a deal for him, especially considering their other contract situations.
“To be clear: receiving calls on a player [is not the same as] actively shopping a player,” Victor Williams of The Philly Pod replied.

It’s a fair point that just because the Eagles are listening to offers for their superstar defender doesn’t necessarily mean they intend to trade him. They could simply be gauging his market, and with the exception of a potential offer that blows them away, the plan may still be to bring him back on a new deal.
