Fox Sports personality Jason McIntyre has been in the headlines this week after a controversial comment about veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen.
The NFL community has criticized McIntyre for what many saw as an unfair jab at Allen, who spent most of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers and built a reputation through years of elite performances.

In a recent episode of his podcast, McIntyre discussed Justin Herbert’s future with the Los Angeles Chargers. While Herbert has continued to face criticism for his lack of playoff success, McIntyre argued that an underwhelming supporting cast has held the quarterback back, claiming Herbert’s receiving corps consisted of journeymen like Allen.
“Keenan Allen was their best receiver, he’s been cut by half the league,” McIntyre remarked, which, of course, was completely wrong.
The claim doesn’t match Allen’s career history, as an NFL team has never released the six-time Pro Bowler. He was drafted by the Chargers in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft and spent 11 seasons with the franchise before playing for the Chicago Bears in 2024. He then returned to Los Angeles last season.
McIntyre was already given a community note from readers for this bizarre take, while the NFL community started ripping him apart on X.

“This is the type of stuff younger sports fans are getting today. These echo chambers are nothing but slop. Blatantly bad and inaccurate statement by this guy,” Mile High Sports’ Cody Roark wrote.
“Jason McIntyre is a walking advertisement for mute buttons,” wrote the “Bills Chat Podcast” page.
After rejoining the Chargers before training camp last season, Allen proved he could still produce at a high level. He led the team with 81 receptions while totaling 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His performance earned him a 77.0 grade in the PFN WR Impact rankings, placing him No. 27 among wide receivers.
Allen turned 34 this year, continuing to build on a career totaling over 1,000 receptions and over 12,000 receiving yards. Given those accomplishments, many believed McIntyre’s comments unfairly diminished one of the league’s most accomplished receivers.

“I warned people of this years ago. People will try to make Herbert’s teammates worse, so it gives the illusion that Herbert is better than he is. Now Keenan Allen, 12,000-yard Keenan Allen, isn’t a good receiver?!?” former linebacker Emmanuel Acho remarked.
“I’d love to give him some goodwill since the overall point of “it’s bad team management that Keenan Allen was their leading receiver in 2025” is correct. But yea, this is tough,” Barstool Sports’ Jack Kennedy wrote.
Aside from the bizarre take from McIntyre, speculation about a potential move linking Allen to the New Orleans Saints remains active. It remains to be seen whether that offseason buzz ultimately turns into reality.
