With the NFL 2025 season here and ready to deliver on multiple storylines, all eyes will be on Sunday’s slate of games.
However, NFL fans and fantasy managers are eagerly checking injury lists to see which players may be out or limited in Week 1. Here’s the list of notable injuries and what to know about them.
Week 1 NFL Injury Report for Sunday
Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers
For the 49ers, it feels like déjà vu. Christian McCaffrey popped up on the injury report this week with a calf issue, raising concerns after Achilles problems and a knee sprain derailed his 2024 season.
McCaffrey didn’t practice with his teammates on Friday — instead, he worked out by himself on the side. He is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. However, McCaffrey met with reporters after the practice session and revealed that he feels “great” and plans to play.
Christian McCaffrey: “Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don’t practice things get blown out of proportion, but I feel great.”

This lines up with NFL insider Tom Pelissero implying that the 49ers were just being cautious with their star running back.
Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, McCaffrey is on track to play on Sunday. “49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is questionable with a calf injury, but signs are pointing to him playing vs the Seahawks, per The Insiders,” Rapoport wrote on X. “McCaffrey was running around on the side during practice Friday and was optimistic to reporters. Barring a setback, it’s likely he’ll go.”
#Update: On Sunday, NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed that McCaffrey will play against the Seahawks in Week 1.
Malik Nabers, WR, Giants
New York Giants fans can relax a little; wideout Malik Nabers should be fine. He was held out of practice on Friday with some back tightness, but head coach Brian Daboll said it was more of a “maintenance” decision than anything alarming.
Nabers is off the injury report and expected to suit up against the Washington Commanders, barring a setback.
Injury updates:
— #Giants WR Malik Nabers (back) is off the report, while OL Andrew Thomas (foot) is doubtful.
— #Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is good to go.
— #Saints Chase Young (calf) and OL Trevor Penning (toe) are out.
— #Falcons WR Darnell Mooney (shoulder) is…— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 5, 2025
De’Von Achane, RB, Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins dodged a bullet. De’Von Achane, who scared fans with a calf strain last month, is off the injury report and ready to play in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. He’s practiced this week, and GM Chris Grier says he’ll be out there Sunday.
Miami may keep a close eye on his workload, but Achane should get plenty of touches with Jaylen Wright ruled out due to an injury of his own.
Myles Garrett, EDGE, Browns
Good news for Cleveland: Myles Garrett is in. The star pass rusher sat out Wednesday’s practice with hip discomfort, but he was back on the field Friday and has no injury designation for Sunday’s showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tyreek Hill, WR, Dolphins
Tyreek Hill had been on the Dolphins’ injury report after being limited in practice with an oblique tweak (and some calf tightness), but he was removed from the injury report on Friday.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said the team was being cautious with Hill and confirmed that the star wide receiver will play on Sunday.
Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan, WR, Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have one of their star receivers available, but not the other. Mike Evans missed Thursday’s practice for rest purposes but is expected to play.
Chris Godwin, however, is officially sidelined as he continues to recover from a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula, and torn deltoid suffered last season. The Bucs are hopeful he can return by late September or early October.
Meanwhile, Jalen McMillan is expected to miss the first half of the 2025 NFL season after suffering a scary neck injury in the preseason, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
Justin Jefferson, WR, Vikings
After battling a hamstring strain throughout training camp, Justin Jefferson is no longer on the injury report and will play in Week 1.
Darnell Mooney, WR, Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons will wait until the very last minute to decide on Darnell Mooney’s status, as he’s a game-time decision. He’s still dealing with a shoulder injury, and Raheem Morris said the team won’t know until about 90 minutes before kickoff whether he can go against Tampa Bay.
#UPDATE: Mooney is ruled out for the Week 1 game against the Buccaneers.
Zack Ertz, TE, Commanders
Don’t worry, Commanders fans: Zack Ertz is fine and just took a veteran rest day. Nothing to worry about here. Expect him on the field Sunday against the Giants.
Jauan Jennings, WR, 49ers
Despite a calf injury that limited him during camp, San Francisco expects Jauan Jennings to be available. He cleared an MRI and returned to practice, providing valuable depth with Brandon Aiyuk sidelined for the first four weeks of the season.
Packers Watch: Micah Parsons & Jayden Reed
Micah Parsons, the newest member of the Green Bay Packers, is working through a challenging back sprain. Although he could require a pregame epidural shot to play against the Detroit Lions, he is on the right track.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed on Saturday that Parsons will make his debut for the Packers in Week 1 against the Lions.
A greater unknown is wide receiver Jayden Reed.

Reed’s foot is being treated for a Jones fracture. He has returned to a limited practice schedule and seemed optimistic that he could play through the injury, but it is still unclear if he will be able to play in Week 1.
Matthew Stafford, QB, Rams
Matthew Stafford is all set to go. The veteran quarterback missed much of training camp with a back issue, but he’s been a full participant in practice this week and will start against the Houston Texans.
Christian Kirk, WR, Texans
Christian Kirk has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Rams, and his absence could extend beyond that. He’s dealing with a strained hamstring, and it remains unclear how long his recovery will take.
Isaiah Likely, TE, Ravens
The Ravens will be without tight end Isaiah Likely on Sunday Night Football. He’s still recovering from foot surgery, though the team expects him back in the season’s first month. For now, Mark Andrews and Charlie Kolar will carry the load.
Najee Harris, RB, Chargers
After signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency this offseason, Najee Harris suffered an eye injury in a freak fireworks accident on July 4.
He recently returned to practice, and head coach Jim Harbaugh has confirmed that he will play on Friday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir, WR, Bills
Despite being sidelined for the entire week due to a groin injury, Keon Coleman is “optimistic” that he will be able to play in Week 1, according to Sean McDermott.
#Bills WR Khalil Shakir, who suffered a high ankle sprain in practice a month ago, was listed as full participant today on the season’s initial injury report. WR Keon Coleman (groin) was limited.

Khalil Shakir is also ready to suit up in Week 1. He is totally recovered from a high-ankle sprain and will be available for the primetime game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Tyjae Spears, RB, Titans
Tyjae Spears suffered a high ankle sprain in the Tennessee Titans’ preseason opener against the Buccaneers. The team placed him on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss at least the first four games of the 2025 season. That means he will be out for Tennessee’s Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Joe Mixon, RB, Texans
Joe Mixon suffered a non-football-related injury during the offseason, which kept him out of the Texans’ training camp and preseason.
He’s been placed on the team’s NFI list, which will sideline him for at least the first four games of the season, including Houston’s Week 1 matchup against the Rams. When asked if Mixon would play at all this season, Texans GM Nick Caserio offered no clear answer, which was a concerning sign of his availability.
Lamar Jackson, QB, Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens had a scare late in training camp when Lamar Jackson suffered a foot injury. He missed a week of practice but returned the following week and is ready to go for Baltimore’s opener against the Bills.
Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Jaguars
The 2024 Heisman winner missed the Jacksonville Jaguars’ final two preseason games against the Dolphins and Saints due to an upper-body injury.
However, the Jaguars’ staff said his absence was precautionary, and Travis Hunter is expected to play in the team’s season opener against the Carolina Panthers.
MarShawn Lloyd, RB, Packers
MarShawn Lloyd suffered a hamstring injury during the Packers’ preseason matchup with the Colts. He’s been placed on IR and won’t be eligible to return until at least Week 5, ruling him out for Green Bay’s Week 1 game against the Lions.
Christian Watson, WR, Packers
Christian Watson tore his ACL in the final week of the 2024 season and has been working throughout training camp to recover.
However, he has been placed on the PUP list and will miss the first four weeks, including the Packers’ season opener against the Lions.
Jalen Coker, WR, Panthers
Jalen Coker sustained a quad injury during a recent Panthers practice and has been placed on short-term IR, which will sideline him for the first four games of the regular season.
There’s plenty of anticipation for Coker’s sophomore season after he impressed as a rookie and delivered a strong showing in camp.
