The NFL regular season is quickly approaching with training camp fully underway. Preseason action is officially here as the Houston Texans will take on the Chicago Bears in tonight’s Hall of Fame Game.
Thanks to the anticipation in the air, we’re tracking all of the news coming out of training camps in August. Here are the top stories ahead of Thursday’s NFL practices.

Atlanta Falcons
- Former Panthers and Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks was spotted at Atlanta’s practice on Tuesday and Wednesday. While Wilks remains unemployed, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot spoke highly of the former head coach.
- Atlanta wide receiver Rondale Moore and cornerback Clark Phillips III each enjoyed their best performances of training camp on Wednesday, according to Daniel Flick of SI.com.
Buffalo Bills
- As Buffalo continues to deal with injuries at safety, the Bills made an addition at the position on Wednesday by officially signing former Rams safety Terrell Burgess to help add depth at a major position of need.
Carolina Panthers
- Following the retirement of veteran running back Rashaad Penny, the Panthers made an addition to the team’s backfield, signing undrafted free agent Dillon Johnson, who was recently waived by the Titans.
Cincinnati Bengals
- Pro Football Network’s Jay Morrison discussed the battle between two former first-round picks that emerged during Cincinnati’s practice on Wednesday. Myles Murphy and Amarius Mims went toe-to-toe in an intriguing showdown.
Dallas Cowboys
- After Cowboys edge rusher Sam Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury, Dallas is looking for reinforcements. The team will host four free agents, including Carl Lawson, for a workout on Thursday, according to Nick Eatman of the Dallas Cowboys.
Denver Broncos
- Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix had a big day, according to Mike Klis of 9News. He put together an exceptional performance during the team’s first two 11-on-11 periods.
Detroit Lions
- Following Netane Muti’s shoulder injury, the Lions added depth in the trenches. Detroit is reportedly signing Jake Burton, who most recently played for the Michigan Panthers in the UFL.
Indianapolis Colts
- Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson had a rough start to practice but eventually got comfortable and threw a perfect deep pass to Alec Pierce in a 7-on-7 team period.
- Rookie wide receiver and return specialist Anthony Gould had a strong performance on Wednesday. Although Gould is currently working with the second and third-team offense, Shane Steichen could reportedly get creative with him during the regular season.
Los Angeles Chargers
- As the Chargers usher in a new era at wide receiver, there is a surprising trio working together atop the team’s depth chart. Joshua Palmer, DJ Chark Jr., and Ladd McConkey have emerged as the primary trio in 11 personnel, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.

New York Giants
- New York got some revenge after former Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates signed with Philadelphia on Tuesday by claiming former Eagles cornerback Mario Goodrich off waivers.
New York Jets
- Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers discussed his on-field “argument” with rising star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Pro Football Network’s Nick Faria highlighted Rodgers’ thoughts on the controversial interaction.
- Faria also detailed rookie WR Malachi Corley’s impressive performance during Wednesday’s practice. Corley made the most of his newfound opportunities and scored three touchdowns on the day.
Philadelphia Eagles
- Eagles fans will have their first (and only) chance to watch the team practice live on Thursday night, as Lincoln Financial Field will welcome thousands of fans for the team’s only public practice of 2024.
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Following a controversial hit on Steelers quarterback Justin Fields, a fight broke out at practice on Wednesday. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wasn’t happy about the moment and admitted it would be a teaching moment for the team.
- After rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson injured his ankle on Tuesday, Pittsburgh made an addition on Wednesday by signing Tarik Black, who has spent time with the Colts, Jets, and Ravens since 2021.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Buccaneers guard Sua Opeta suffered a torn ACL at training camp this week. Opeta was competing for the starting left guard spot with Ben Bredeson.
