Former Buccaneers QB Lands New Gig with NFC South Rival

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has found himself a new landing spot with one of the team's biggest division rivals.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to right the ship heading into Week 12 after dropping their last two games to the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. Thanks to a career revival from Baker Mayfield since joining Tampa Bay, the squad finds itself in the hunt for yet another division title.

Mayfield, one of the fiercest competitors in the NFL, has helped solidify the Buccaneers’ quarterback position. This level of security in the top spot has allowed the front office to experiment with the team’s depth behind Mayfield, which sometimes results in players being cut from the roster.

Former Buccaneers QB Kyle Trask has found himself a new landing spot inside the NFC South

One player who felt the effects of the quarterback depth rotation is Kyle Trask, who was released from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in August, has now found himself back in the NFC South mix. According to Josh Kendall of The Athletic, Trask has been signed to the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad. The move comes in the wake of Atlanta’s starting quarterback, Michael Penix Jr., being ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL.

There is no guarantee that Kyle Trask will see an NFL field anytime soon; however, the decision to join the Atlanta Falcons gets him one step closer. Former Minnesota Vikings superstar Kirk Cousins will take over the starting QB role for the Falcons, while Easton Stick will be moved to the active roster.

The Atlanta Falcons have struggled so far this season, sitting tied for 30th with only nine passing touchdowns. The team has benefited from a strong rushing game, as it sits 14th in PFSN’s Offense Impact rankings.

Kyle Trask was initially selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2nd round (64th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft, three spots ahead of current Houston Texans starting QB Davis Mills. Throughout his short NFL career, Trask has appeared in 7 games (none of which he started), completing four passes for 28 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

The quarterback’s NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have been underwhelming; however, Kyle Trask excelled during his tenure with the Florida Gators. In his senior year, Trask led college football with 43 passing touchdowns, earning himself a place as a Heisman Memorial Trophy Finalist alongside the likes of Mac Jones, Trevor Lawrence, and DeVonta Smith, who would ultimately win the award.
