Is This Drake Maye’s Last Shot at Building His MVP Resume?

Patriots QB Drake Maye stays in the NFL MVP race as odds tighten against Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been one of the most consistent players at his position throughout the 2025 NFL season. For much of the year, Maye remained firmly in the MVP conversation after delivering steady production week after week while leading a Patriots offense that has shown growth as the season progressed.

PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor shows New England firmly in control of its postseason outlook, giving the Patriots a 69.4% likelihood of capturing the AFC East and an overwhelming 99.9% probability of reaching the playoffs.

What Does Maye’s MVP Bid Look Like Now?

Over the last few weeks, however, his MVP momentum has slowed as the race tightens and other contenders continue to post strong performances. That slowdown has not been a reflection of poor play. Maye continues to operate the offense efficiently and protect the football, but late-season results across the league have reshaped the odds.

For most of the year, oddsmakers viewed Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford as Maye’s primary competition for the award, with the two trading spots at the top of MVP boards. Stafford entered Week 15 as the betting favorite, but his odds shifted following the Rams’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.

Despite the defeat, Stafford delivered a standout performance in primetime, throwing for 457 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in a back-and-forth contest. Still, the loss caused his MVP odds at DraftKings Sportsbook to move from -300 to -225.

The remaining schedule also factors into the MVP discussion. Los Angeles is set to close the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals, two teams currently outside the playoff picture. While those matchups may present opportunities for Stafford to pad his numbers, voters often place significant weight on team success and late-season momentum when evaluating MVP candidates.

Following the Rams’ loss, Maye’s odds improved from +425 to +300. Even with that movement, Maye must also contend with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who has kept himself in the race by leading Buffalo through several important wins in recent weeks. Allen’s ability to deliver in high-pressure moments has kept his name near the top of MVP conversations as the regular season winds down.

Maye’s Stats This Season

Statistically, Maye continues to compare favorably with the league’s top quarterbacks. Through the first 15 weeks of the season, he leads the NFL in completion percentage at 70.9%. He also ranks fifth in passing yards with 3,587 while throwing 23 touchdown passes. While his touchdown total does not lead the league, his efficiency and consistency have been defining aspects of his season.

Despite the individual success, Maye has remained focused on team goals rather than personal accolades. Speaking at his weekly press conference, the 23-year-old emphasized that his priorities extend beyond awards.

“The MVP is obviously one of the big accolades for this league, and it’s something that is an honor as a player to earn that award,” Maye said. “I respect all the past MVPs, but at the end of the day, winning the Super Bowl is the biggest thing. That’s what makes this league go. That’s what you work toward, and that’s what this game is about.”

The Patriots have three games remaining, all against teams with losing records. New England will close the season with matchups against the Baltimore Ravens, the New York Jets, and the Miami Dolphins. Strong performances down the stretch could not only strengthen the Patriots’ postseason position but also give Maye one final opportunity to push his name back toward the top of the MVP race.
