Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has totaled at least 37 pass attempts in four of his past five games, independent of game script. In fact, he is No. 3 in pass attempts through 14 weeks. It’s safe to say Nix is establishing the pass as of late. But Week 14 was weird. Nix completed 31-of-38 passes for 212 scoreless yards, 5.6 yards per attempt, and an 89.9 passer rating (ok, Drew Brees). The question becomes, is the former a franchise quarterback?
Why Bo Nix Is a Franchise Quarterback
The answer is becoming yes. That said, PFSN’s Jacob Infante released his weekly QB Rankings on Tuesday. In it, he moved up Nix two spots from 15 to 13. In fact, the latter’s QBi grade is 77.4 (C+). So, according to PFSN, Nix is on the doorstep of a franchise QB.
“Nix isn’t particularly elite in most of PFSN’s passing categories, but he’s above the halfway threshold in pretty much every statistic. His most notable stat? He’s second in the NFL in EPA per dropback on the opponent’s half of the field, and he leads the league with six game-winning drives in 2025,” Infante wrote.
The tangibles of a franchise quarterback are there for Nix. He’s 21-9 through 30 games, with nine game-winning drives (wins being a QB stat is tacit knowledge). 11 of those wins have come in Year 2 in 13 games, and six of the nine game-winning drives have come in Year 2 as well. While Nix’s passer rating is down in Year 2 at 86.4 compared to 93.3 in Year 1, his yards per game are slightly up from 222.1 in Year 1 to 227.2 in Year 2.
And Nix is slowly but surely doctoring his completion percentage (accuracy). After Week 14 (81.6% completion percentage), his completion percentage is 63.2% compared to 66.3% in Year 1, with four games to go. So, Nix needs consitency.
He has just four games with a completion percentage over 65%. Oof. But there are only four games with a completion percentage below 60%. So, that’s four games above 65%, four games below 60%, and the rest hover between 60-64.9%. With four games left in the regular season, coincidentally, Nix can incrementally inch toward franchise quarterback status. An 81.6% completion percentage on 38 pass attempts in Week 14 is a good start. Infante continued.
“Say what you want about Bo Nix’s role in the Denver Broncos’ winning ways, but one thing’s for certain: he sure isn’t holding them back. He threw for 212 yards with an absurd 81.6% completion percentage, not throwing any touchdowns but avoiding any interceptions,” Infante wrote.
