Falcons Promising DB Out for Rest of the Season

The Atlanta Falcons will be without a few players for their game against the New York Jets on Sunday, such as wide receiver Drake London, who is dealing with a knee injury, and quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who suffered a torn ACL against the Carolina Panthers in Week 11 and will be out for the rest of the season.

Some defensive pieces will be out as well, such as defensive lineman Zach Harrison, inside linebacker Josh Woods, and, more recently, defensive back Billy Bowman Jr.

What Happened to DB Billy Bowman Jr.?

It was reported by Tori McElhaney of the official team site on Nov. 21 that Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said Bowman Jr. injured his Achilles during a walkthrough prior to the Week 12 game against the New Orleans Saints and that it was “not good.” Bowman Jr. missed the game vs. New Orleans.

McElhany also reported that Bowman Jr. underwent surgery this week for the torn Achilles and is out for the rest of the season on injured reserve. Throughout this season, Bowman Jr. has dealt with a lot of injuries, such as knee and hamstring issues, that have caused him to miss a considerable number of games this year. Now he’s done for the rest of the season.

Through six games played this year, Bowman Jr. amassed 26 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, and two passes defended. The Falcons’ secondary has struggled quite a bit this season with injuries and subpar play for a substantial portion of it, but they did play well against the Saints this past week, holding them to only three offensive points, not counting the pick-six that New Orleans’ defense scored.

This season is officially over for the promising defensive back who’s evolved into a key player for the secondary.
