With the Arizona Cardinals’ win Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys, the Cardinals have a short week before their Week 10 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
With the short week, coach Jonathan Gannon didn’t waste any time naming the Cardinals’ starting quarterback for Week 10 against the Seahawks.
Gannon announced at his Tuesday afternoon press conference that Jacoby Brissett will get the start Sunday in Seattle.
Why Did Jonathan Gannon Announce the Week 10 QB So Early?
Ahead of Monday night’s contest with the Cowboys, Gannon waited until Saturday morning to announce Brissett would be the Cardinals’ starter.
Murray had an extra week with the bye to get healthy enough to play, but Gannon said he wasn’t ready to start yet, and Murray was inactive Monday night.
However, with a short week before Sunday’s matchup with the Seahawks, Gannon announced Tuesday afternoon that Brissett will start his fourth game of the 2025 season in Week 10.
“Jacoby will start, and Kyler will keep working on his health bucket,” Gannon said. “I do like what the offense is doing right now. We’re operating well, and we’ll go from there.”
Based on Gannon’s temperament during Tuesday’s press conference, it sounds like he’s content with Brissett continuing to start until Murray is 100% healthy.
However, it still raises questions about what exactly is going on with Murray’s health.
Gannon said last week that Murray was progressing, practiced limited on both Thursday and Friday, and was questionable heading into Monday night.
Though the Cardinals coach announced Brissett would start in Week 10, he made it clear that he was not ruling Murray out of the game, which suggests he’ll use the same phrasing he did last week.
Murray will likely be questionable for the game and could be used in some capacity, just not as the starter.
However, Arizona Sports Radio talk show host John Gambadoro reported that Jonathan Gannon said he would have named Jacoby Brissett the starting quarterback even if Kyler Murray had been healthy.
There are a lot of mixed signals coming from the Cardinals right now, and there’s truly no telling what’s going on with Murray.
Gannon did, however, explain why he announced the decision so early this week.
“With the clarity that it provides game-planning for our team, I think that’s important,” Gannon said. “We’ll go from there.”
The Cardinals coach also gave an update, although rather vague, on how Murray is doing.
“He’s doing well. He wants to be out there, you know what I mean, he’s a competitor,” Gannon said. “I talked to him today. But, he’s a good teammate and he’s working to get healthy.”
The last question Gannon addressed regarding Murray was about potentially shutting him down for the season or placing him on injured reserve (IR) due to his injury, and Gannon’s response was a simple “I don’t know that.”
There’s no telling what Murray’s future is in Arizona right now, or when he’ll play football next. But we do know that Brissett will start for the Cardinals on Sunday against the Seahawks.
