This week’s installment will cover my 2021 NFL Draft prospect rankings, what I’m hearing about the Houston Texans, the latest on the NFL Combine, Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky’s fates with the Chicago Bears, and much more. But first, we start with the immediate outlook for Doug Pederson.

NFL Rumors & Draft News: The Tony Pauline Mailbag (1.13.21)

Following the surprising dismissal of Doug Pederson as head coach of the Eagles, where do you think they turn next for head coach? Will they seek a coach who can “fix” Carson Wentz? And could Pederson be a target for Joe Douglas with the NY Jets?

I was not surprised Pederson was fired. As I reported back in September, many felt he had reached his limit in Philadelphia. I will speak more on Pederson and the Jets during our Wednesday podcast.

Any NFL rumors or have any thoughts about the Deshaun Watson saga playing out in Houston? Would they really trade their franchise quarterback? Is there any truth to the rampant rumors fueled by national reporters that there could be a Deshaun Watson/Tua Tagovailoa swap?

Nothing I’ve been told leads me to believe the Texans will move Watson. In fact, many in the league laugh at the thought.

With the shortened season and the potential cancellation or reduction of the NFL Scouting Combine, could you see teams prioritizing “safer” high floor players in the draft; or even looking to trade picks in 2021 for future picks or current players who are known quantities?

It’s too early to say considering — 1) we don’t know if the NFL Combine is being canceled, and 2) we don’t know if there will be anything to make up for the NFL Combine potentially being canceled.

It seems like Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy continues to get head coaching interviews but isn’t considered the favorite for any current opening. Any NFL rumors on Bieniemy finally gets a head coaching job this offseason? If so, where do you think he ends up?

Bieniemy’s problem, as stated here numerous times by myself and Benjamin Allbright, are poor interviews. It was an issue last offseason and is also happening again this year.

What do you think the future holds for Matt Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky in Chicago? Are the Bears in the quarterback market this offseason?

As of this evening (January 12), I’m told ownership is still discussing his future. Personally, I believe the Bears are in a no-win situation.
