‘Acting As His Publicist’ — NFL Podcaster Speculates on Dianna Russini’s Role in Helping Mike Vrabel Land Patriots Job

One NFL podcaster pointed to a recent report and Dianna Russini's AP voting role to argue that she helped shape Mike Vrabel's path to the Patriots.

The Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel saga first erupted on April 7, when Page Six published photos of them holding each other’s hands and embracing at a resort in Sedona, Arizona. More than three months later, with Patriots training camp set to open next week, the controversy is still generating headlines.

Podcaster Tony Farmer has arguably been the most persistent voice covering the scandal, and he recently spoke up on Russini’s alleged involvement in Vrabel’s coaching career.

Tony Farmer Questions Dianna Russini’s Influence on Mike Vrabel’s Job Search

Farmer, who hosts the “Last Men Standing” podcast, has spent months raising questions surrounding the situation. His latest comments zeroed in on what he described as Russini’s role in allegedly positioning Vrabel for the New England Patriots’ head coaching job after the team fired Jerod Mayo.

Last month, The New York Times reported that one of Russini’s close friends told them that Russini served as an “unofficial adviser” to Vrabel after his exit from the Tennessee Titans, helping him position himself for another head-coaching opportunity.

The report noted, “The friend said that Ms. Russini and Mr. Vrabel supported each other in their careers, and that after Mr. Vrabel was fired, Ms. Russini served as an unofficial adviser as he positioned himself for another top job. In 2025, he became head coach of the Patriots.”

Farmer brought it up during his appearance on the “Good Teams Win, Great Teams Cover” podcast.

“Remember what the [The New York Times] said, they said that they had a friend of Russini, who said that she was working as an unofficial adviser to Mike Vrabel during his job search,” Farmer said.

He then connected that role to Russini’s previous position as one of the Associated Press’s 50 NFL awards voters, and added, “So, a vote like that, you could argue, could potentially help his job search. Not to mention all the interviews she did, talking about what a great candidate he was and how he was blowing these interviews out of the water. It almost seems to me like she was acting as his publicist during that job search.”

Vrabel won the Coach of the Year award last season, and the AP’s refusal to release Russini’s specific ballot has only fueled Farmer and others’ scrutiny over the last few months.

Despite publishing every voter’s ballot the previous year, the organization has declined to share the breakdown from the most recent cycle.

Russini resigned from The Athletic on April 14, roughly one week after the Sedona photos surfaced and just days after the outlet launched an internal investigation into her conduct. That investigation reportedly remains ongoing, even though Russini is no longer employed there.

Vrabel, meanwhile, has continued to serve as head coach in New England without issue. No significant new developments have emerged in the scandal over the past several weeks, but that could change if Russini decides to speak publicly or The Athletic releases the findings of its investigation.
