Prior to the free-agent period officially beginning, the legal tampering period will start on March 16 and run up until the official start of the free agency period. This period is when teams are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon the expiration of their 2019 player contracts at 4:00 PM EST on March 18.
