‘Wipes the Floor With ANY American Teenager in History’ — Ex-NFL LB Boldly Takes Lamine Yamal Over LeBron James Amid Historic World Cup

Was LeBron James a better teenage athlete than Lamine Yamal? Emmanuel Acho argues the Spain sensation has no American equal.

Lamine Yamal’s goal in Spain’s 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia saw him go past soccer legend Lionel Messi’s record as one of the youngest players — at 18 years and 343 days — to score at a FIFA World Cup.

Reacting to the game, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho boldly claimed that no American teenager in sports history — including NBA legend LeBron James — can compare to what the Spain and Barcelona superstar has already accomplished before turning 19.

Why Emmanuel Acho Believes Lamine Yamal Is Better Than Every Teenager in American Sports History

Discussing on “Speakeasy”, Acho made the stunning claim. “Lamine Yamal wipes the floor with any American teenager in the history of American sport,” he said.

The former Philadelphia Eagles player and current NFL analyst pointed to Yamal’s accomplishments at both the international and domestic club levels.

“16 years old, wins the Euros. 18 years old, scores in a World Cup. Operative word there being ‘World’ Cup,” Acho said. “Also, MVP of La Liga in a league with the likes of [Kylian] Mbappe.”

“There is no American playing an American sport, I would suggest, in the history of American sports that can compare with what Lamine Yamal has done as a teenager,” he added.

The comments came shortly after Yamal scored in the 10th minute of Spain’s win over Saudi Arabia, becoming one of the youngest scorers in World Cup history. The goal also saw him break Messi’s record of scoring a first World Cup goal at 18 years and 357 days.

Yamal still ranks only eighth on that list, behind Brazilian legend Pelé, who holds the record at 17 years and 239 days. Acho then quickly backed his claim by referencing modern basketball icon LeBron to praise the Spanish teen.

“What LeBron James did as a teenager was absolutely incredible,” Acho said. “Youngest teenager [with] a 40-point game. Youngest person to 1,000 points as a teenager. All-rookie team. Rookie of the year. All these things LeBron James did as a teenager, absolutely incredible,”

Acho stressed that the NBA is still limited only to America, not globally. He added, “While playing against the athletes of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Not the world. What Lamine Yamal is doing, I don’t think any American teenager in the history of simply American sports can even touch.”

Acho once again touched on the long-existing debate between American sports and the rest of the world. Winning a Super Bowl in the NFL, a World Series in MLB, or an NBA championship is the pinnacle of those sports, but in theory, they remain domestic club competitions rather than international ones.

By contrast, winning a FIFA World Cup — and, to a lesser extent, the UEFA Champions League — carries different significance because it involves either the world’s best national teams or the continent’s top clubs competing against one another.

There may not be a definitive answer because basketball, football, and baseball simply do not have equivalent international competitions universally regarded as superior to the NBA, NFL, or MLB. While it’s largely a blessing, it ironically becomes a curse in arguments like these.
