NFL Insider Shoots Down ‘Fake News’ About Browns Trying To Trade For Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

NFL insider Jane Slater debunks Dak Prescott trade rumors to the Browns, shutting down viral NFL Draft buzz. Here's the story behind the speculation.

Quarterback chatter is heating up as NFL draft season ramps into high gear, and so are the rumors. With so much movement expected and so many teams hunting for answers under center, social media doesn’t take much to run wild.

Of course, not every rumor online is tenable. One connected insider poured cold water on a headline-grabbing claim that had Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys fans buzzing.

NFL Insider Debunks Dak Prescott, Browns Trade Rumors

On March 26, a rumor suggested that the Cleveland Browns were negotiating to acquire Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

NFL Network’s Jane Slater took to X to quickly shut it down.

“I run it all down when working this beat and the Dallas Cowboys are NOT working on trading Dak to the Browns. In fact, texts with two sources tell me ‘fake news’ and ‘absolutely not’ before this gets any sort of wheels.”

Slater’s tweet included a GIF of someone dumping water out of a bucket — a not-so-subtle way of putting out the flames of Drennan’s unverified report.

Her quick response was meant to shut the door on the growing speculation and clear up a situation with very little actual reporting behind it.

Slater is arguably the most plugged-in reporter on the Cowboys beat, and for her to be this direct shows just how unfounded the Prescott-to-Cleveland rumor really is.

The rumor came from comments made by longtime Cleveland sports broadcaster Bruce Drennan on his show. Drennan confidently delivered the claim, referencing multiple sources close to the Browns.

“Get ready for this one. I got a pretty darn good source within the Browns organization, a couple,” Drennan said. “Part of the reason Myles Garrett was so willing to sign his contract … [is because] the Browns are negotiating as we speak with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade for Dak Prescott.”

No Deal: Prescott Staying Put as Browns Focus on NFL Draft

Prescott, who signed a sizable contract extension with Dallas in 2021, remains a key piece of the Cowboys’ offense. The team has consistently shown faith in his leadership and performance, making a trade unlikely.

The Browns, who hold the No. 2 pick in the draft, have been tied to several quarterback prospects — most notably Shedeur Sanders. While it makes sense they’d be exploring ways to improve the roster, there’s no credible info suggesting Prescott is on their radar.

With draft season rolling and QB talk heating up, wild rumors will pop up. But this time, people close to the situation say it loud and clear: there’s no truth to it.

Unless something major changes, Prescott remains the Cowboys’ franchise QB. And the Browns look locked in on building their future through the draft — not chasing splashy trades built on speculation.
