The 2025 NFL Draft is less than a month away, and the rumor mill is in full swing. It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns need a quarterback. The team is stuck with Deshaun Watson’s contract and will likely target one early in the draft.
That part isn’t a rumor. What is a rumor? That the Browns are working on a trade for the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.
Cleveland Browns Linked to Dak Prescott in Wild Trade Rumor
The Browns are in full-on quarterback hell. Watson’s deal still has two years of guaranteed money left, and the team can’t cut him without taking a brutal cap hit. While he’s the 12th-highest-paid QB by average annual value, he’s not expected to play next season as he recovers from an Achilles injury.
The Watson gamble has completely backfired on general manager Andrew Berry. Watson hasn’t been able to stay healthy, and when he has played, he’s been bad. He ranked dead last in the league last season, according to PFSN’s QB+ metric.
In three years with Cleveland, Watson has played 19 games with a 9-10 record. Last season, he appeared in seven games and threw for 1,148 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. Not exactly $230 million numbers.
So, how do the Browns fix this mess?
Bruce Drennan, a longtime Cleveland media figure and host of “Bonus Time with Bruce Drennan,” recently dropped a bombshell on his show — saying the Browns are negotiating a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for Dak Prescott.
.@Bruce_Drennan has a #Browns source with some MAJOR news…
"The Browns are negotiating as we speak with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade with Dak Prescott."

“Get ready for this one. I got a pretty darn good source within the Browns’ organization, a couple. I heard since our last show, part of the reason Myles Garrett was so willing to sign this extension … yeah money, money, money. The Browns are negotiating as we speak with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade for Dak Prescott,” Drennan said.
“We’re not going anywhere with Prescott, even if they pull it off — [Greg] Newsome’s part of it, and draft picks. No, Prescott has a hamstring injury as we speak and may not be ready for the start of training camp. But this comes from a couple of different sources, and take it for what it’s worth.”
It’s just a rumor coming from Drennan’s claimed sources within the Browns’ organization. But if there’s any truth to it, it would make Cleveland’s offseason much more interesting. The Browns would suddenly have the most expensive quarterback room in NFL history.
Moments after the rumor took flight, NFL Network reporter Jane Slater poured cold water on Drennan’s comments, posting to X: “I run it all down when working this beat and the Dallas Cowboys are NOT working on trading Dak to the Browns. In fact, texts with two sources tell me “fake news” and “absolutely not” before this gets any sort of wheels.”
Prescott currently holds the league’s highest average annual salary. His $240 million contract pays him $60 million a year, and the Browns would almost certainly have to eat that entire number.

The Browns got exactly what they deserved for drafting Watson after what he did to those women. It was disgusting and to hand a person like that a fully guaranteed contract was shameful. As for the NFL as an organization don’t go calling yourself woman-friendly in your practices. Letting him back in so he could rake in the foolish Cleveland dough was appalling.
