NFL Insider Reveals the Giants Are ‘Aggressively’ Pursuing a Young QB, But View These 2 Veterans As ‘Backup Plans’

With free agents coming off the board, the New York Giants are becoming aggressively desperate to get their quarterback for the 2025 season.

The New York Giants are in an unenviable position heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. The less said about their choice of Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley, the better. But beyond that mishap, the team is now entering the season without a true quarterback on the roster and the third overall pick.

With just two QBs standing out in the field as surefire hits, the Giants, with the third pick, could have a chance at neither. Further, their offseason plans haven’t gone to plan with Matthew Stafford, and potentially, Aaron Rodgers is also spurning them. As a result, with no man under center to build around, the team has become desperate and aggressive.

New York Giants’ Backup Plan

The Giants’ search for a quarterback took multiple directions. Having Malik Nabers on the roster would have made building a rock-solid offense far easier. However, Stafford’s move never materialized.

Then, the collective quarterback market shifted to Rodgers, who has yet to decide. However, with a far better playoff chance available with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it seems unlikely he will remain in New York. As a result, the Giants are left with two reasonable options in the free agent market.

Diana Russini, one of the most reputed NFL insiders and analysts, appeared on the Dan Patrick Show to break down what the quarterback search for Brain Daboll now looks like.

“[The Giants are] hoping that Russell Wilson or Joe Flacco decide to come to New York. I think that’s going to wind up being one of their backup plans, one or the other.” However, neither of those two is the long-term solution, and the Giants know it.

“I think the focus has always been to get a quarterback [in the draft]. I think they’ve aggressively called up to Tennessee to try to move up. I don’t get the sense right now out of Tennessee that they’ve made a final decision yet.”

With Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders emerging as potential franchise quarterbacks, New York would like to acquire either to take over under center.

However, the latest mock draft from PFSN has a far more optimistic outlook for the team. After Tennessee takes Ward to fix their QB mess, the Cleveland Browns give New York a boon by selecting Abdul Carter out of Penn State.

That leaves Sanders ripe for the picking, and the Giants could do worse than selecting the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.
