Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the New York Jets was nothing short of tumultuous. After a highly anticipated move to New York in 2023, the four-time NFL MVP faced a series of setbacks, culminating in a disappointing 2024 season.
Despite this, insiders and analysts suggest Rodgers is unlikely to retire and may seek a fresh start with another NFL team in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers Eyes Another Shot at NFL After Tough Season
Despite a turbulent 2024 season with the Jets, Rodgers appears determined to continue his NFL career. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer shared insights from a recent conversation with Rodgers, indicating the veteran signal-caller is not ready to retire.
“I don’t think he wants to go out the way he went out last year. I had a long conversation with him over the summer, where he said he didn’t want to go out the way he went out in 2023, which was with the Achilles’ injury. If he didn’t want to go out hurt, I would assume he wouldn’t want to go out playing the way the Jets did at the end of the year last year.
“And that was just a dumpster fire of a season from start to finish for everyone involved. So I do think he has it, you know, in his head that he wants to take one more swing in it.”
Rodgers, now 41, faces uncertainty in free agency. With his age, injury history, and the Jets’ underwhelming 2024 performance, finding a new team may prove challenging. While Rodgers still wants to be a starting quarterback, the available opportunities are limited. Many teams have established franchise quarterbacks, making it difficult for an aging veteran to secure a role that meets his expectations.
Statistically, Rodgers demonstrated he can still perform at a high level. In 2024, he recorded 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. While he may not possess the same mobility he once had, his arm talent remains intact. According to PFSN’s QB+ metric, Rodgers ranked as the No. 21 quarterback in the league last season, earning a score of 72.2 (C-). This ranking suggests he is still a viable option, albeit no longer among the league’s elite.
Some potential landing spots for Rodgers include the the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, who currently lack a definitive QB1. Any team considering Rodgers will need to weigh his experience and leadership against concerns about durability and declining efficiency.
If Rodgers signs with another team, it will mark the third franchise of his career. After spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, he joined the Jets in 2023 but played only one game before suffering a season-ending injury.
While the 2024 season did not meet expectations, Rodgers remains committed to playing, hoping to rewrite the final chapter of his storied career with a stronger finish.
