NFL Insider Sounds Off on Why Maxx Crosby, Raiders Players Have Issue With Alex Guerrero’s Role Under Tom Brady

Maxx Crosby and other Las Vegas Raiders players sounded off on Alex Guerrero's position as Tom Brady's confidant, which goes beyond his role.

Recent events suggest a potential split between Maxx Crosby and the Las Vegas Raiders. Last month, during Super Bowl week, The Athletic NFL insider Dianna Russini shared that, if given the chance, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end wants to play for New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

This time, another insider revealed the brewing tension within the Raiders organization due to one of Tom Brady’s closest allies.

Maxx Crosby and Raiders Players Fed Up With Alex Guerrero’s Behavior

Michael Silver, NFL writer for The Athletic, shared with Dan Patrick that Guerrero could be the catalyst for more dysfunction within the AFC West franchise.

“Sounds like Alex Guerrero, from talking to players and coaches and other people in the building, is presenting himself as someone far more powerful. He’s certainly perceived as a guy who will run into Brady with anything he sees or hears. That’s not seem to be a great environment, and it’s part of the equation when it comes to Maxx Crosby’s desire to get out of there,” Silver said.

Guerrero’s official designation with the Raiders is wellness coordinator. However, based on feedback from Crosby and other players, Guerrero appears to wield more authority within the organization, influencing team dynamics despite his official title. As Silver added, people within the Raiders question Guerrero’s power despite his questionable football credentials.

Brady is deeply involved in the team’s football operations, but his other pursuits diminish his time with the Raiders. Brady is not only a minority owner but also a businessman and Fox Sports color analyst. Brady’s busy schedule allows Guerrero’s presence to keep him informed about the Raiders’ concerns.

However, as Silver wrote in a related article, “Guerrero, who regularly attends practices and meetings, purports to possess significant organizational power, informing players of impending transactions and even indicating to staff members who don’t follow his instructions that their jobs may be at risk.”

Guerrero started as Tom Brady’s trainer, and their relationship grew into a friendship and business partnership. Brady and Guerrero were co-founders of TB12, their platform for sharing the wellness tips that helped the three-time NFL Most Valuable Player establish a lengthy and successful career.

Raiders Preparing for Life Without Maxx Crosby

Silver hinted that, aside from Guerrero’s presence, the relationship between Crosby and the Raiders soured when general manager John Spytek informed Crosby that he would not play in the team’s final two regular-season games last year. While his absence helped the Raiders secure the top overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, that decision could expedite Crosby’s exit from Las Vegas.

A player of Crosby’s caliber will merit much attention from other NFL teams. As Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote, a source shared that the Raiders’ asking price for Crosby is two first-round picks and a player.

Crosby has 105 tackles for loss, 69.5 sacks, and 11 forced fumbles in seven seasons. In March 2025, he signed a three-year, $106.5 million deal.
