‘Could See Commanders Being in Play’ — NFL Insider Links Washington to 4-Time Pro Bowler Amid Brandon Aiyuk Uncertainty

The Commanders are always looking for ways to improve their roster, and one spot they need an upgrade is WR, where Stefon Diggs is an option.

Within the next week, every NFL team will have reported to training camp. That means football is near, and there will be plenty of storylines to follow over the next month leading up to the regular season.

One of the big talking points during the offseason was the drama with San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He is unhappy in San Francisco and will not play another game for them; however, he is still waiting for the team to release him so he can look for a new home.

One team that seemed like a strong possibility to land Aiyuk was the Washington Commanders. Yet, those talks have died down, and the Commanders may be interested in a different veteran.

Washington Could Be in on Stefon Diggs

Few teams need wide receiver help as badly as the Commanders. They have Terry McLaurin as their WR1 and not much else on the roster. They are hoping to change that before the season kicks off in September.

One highly productive veteran who is still available is Stefon Diggs. He played last season with the New England Patriots and showed he can still be effective in the right offense. Now, many think the Commanders will be looking to pair him with Jayden Daniels.

During a segment on “The Pat McAfee Show,” NFL insider Adam Schefter said, I think the Commanders definitely will be in play for Stefon Diggs. I think that’s a viable landing spot.”

“I think the Aiyuk situation with the Commanders, I think that’s a little bit here,” Schefter added. “I think that that was on the track to happening, and it went off the track. And that doesn’t mean it can’t get back on the track. But again, I think there are people that wonder whether or not he wants to play.”

Talking about Diggs, Schefter continued, “Stefon Diggs went to Maryland. They could use another wide receiver. He would be a great alternative. I could see the Commanders being in play for him.”

Diggs is coming off a season where he caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. According to PFN’s WR Impact Metric, he posted an impact score of 82.9 last season, ranking seventh in the league.

The receptions and yards would have led the Commanders last season, and even entering his age-33 season, Diggs is capable of another 1,000+ yard season.

The Commanders must do whatever it takes to build a strong roster around Daniels. He showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie season before being limited to only seven games last season.

Outside of a strong offensive line to keep Daniels upright, giving him playmakers on the outside is a strong way to help him. No one knows what to expect from the Commanders heading into the 2026 season, but if their offense can return to its 2024 numbers, that would be huge.
